Popular summer event this weekend
ROUND LAKE, N.Y. » The popular Markets at Round Lake are returning this weekend, celebrating both the Makers Revolution and Sustainable Food Movement with its offerings.
The two-day event, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, is set to take place in the eclectic little village, with most festivities taking place on the Village Green at 49 Burlington Ave. in Round Lake.
The event, now in its third year, will showcase more than 80 artisans in the local and regional maker, crafter and artisanal edibles community.
“These Makers, who have been selectively juried, will converge within an eclectic village bringing forth the latest talent and hottest trends,” a press release said.
This year’s Markets at Round Lake, a fundraiser for the Round Lake Libraries, features talented and passionate vendors with a variety of handmade goods from leather bags to ceramics, clothing to candles, industrial chic to upcycled jewelry and much more.
Additionally, there as a food market including pre-packaged goods with tastes ranging from salsa and sauerkraut, craft ciders and spirits to sweet treats and spices as well as a book market with more than 15,000 used and some rare books in the historic Round Lake Auditorium. During a preview from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday hardcovers will cost $2 and paperbacks will be $1 each. Regular pricing will be $1 for hardcovers and 50 cents for paperbacks during normal event hours.
The live music lineup, sponsored by The Mill on Round Lake, features Stories Told ~ Gary Moon & Alice Jenkins Hausmann, Round Lake Heartstrings, Mike Gowens, Kate Blain and the Jeanine Ouderkirk Jazz Duo. On Sunday DJ Selector David Normal will play tunes.
BarStream is set to serve up beer, cider and wine from its iconic vintage 1966 Airstream while Food Trucks Capital Q, Burger 21, Samosa Shack, The Plaid Pancake, The Hungry Traveler, Tin Can Juicery, O’Pablo’s Food Truck, and the WRLIS Pie Booth satisfy shoppers’ appetites.
For young attendees, The Creativity Caravan travelling studio, gallery, and imaginarium is sure to spark, engage, and nourish creativity in kids of all ages. A miniature book-making activity will be held in front of the Round Lake Auditorium. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to make their very own miniature books, with lots of materials and embellish-
ments available to fill the books with stories and illustrations.
All are invited to come meet the makers, taste the goodness, read a piece of history, listen to live music and shop local this weekend at the Markets at Round Lake.
Organizer Kim Sheridan-Dugmore said, “2018 marks the third year of the Markets at Round Lake, an event that grew out of that village’s long running craft fair. It is a weekend that sees local makers of everything from artisan pottery, jewelry, wood crafts, apothecary, art, food and countless other products, come together in the delightful and historical setting of the Village of Round Lake. It is a truly eclectic show, and could not be better located than in this colorful, community minded setting. 80+ vendors in total will have their bespoke crafts at the event, their stalls woven between the traditional Victorian homes than make Round Lake itself so very unique.”
She continued, “The event offers a perfect way to soak in the atmosphere of this historical, while at the same time meeting talented area makers and also enjoying a range of food and drinks provided by wellknown area food trucks and drinks vendors. Three markets, two days, one eclectic village.”
