SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » City Hall remained closed Monday as employees began to work at the city’s recreation facility on 15 Vanderbilt Avenue.

Mayor Meg Kelly said City Hall, after being struck by lightning Friday night, will be closed until further notice. The majority of the damage was water related.

In addition to the recreation facility, employees will work out of the Lake Avenue Fire Station, the Department of Public Works facility on Van Rensselaer Street and a yet to be determined office space for confidential employees. Kelly anticipates everybody up and running by Wednesday.

“We have things in motion,” said Kelly. “We’re working with our Emergency Management Plan, which has been flawless since Friday night.”

The Police Department will continue operating, uninterrupted, at 5 Lake Avenue.

The City is operating in accordance with its City Emergency Manage Plan, created in collaboration with the Risk and Safety Department, Police and Fire Departments, all other City departments, insurance and other experts in the field, and voted on by City Council. At this time, Kelly is the Point of Information to the public.

“It’s a very important lesson for a lot of businesses to have this Emergency Management Plan because it has been flawless,” said Kelly Monday. “We’re getting things done and moving right along.”

City Council meeting scheduled for 6:00 pm on Tuesday will be held at the Saratoga Springs City Center.

Kelly will provide an update about the fire during Tuesday’s meeting.

Crews from Quick Response, out of Round Lake, were working at City Hall Monday.
