Saratoga Springs, NY - Donald Patrick Marry, formerly of Manhattan and Boca Raton, FL, he was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfathe­r, greatgrand­father and uncle, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 24, 2018. He was 85. Born September 6, 1932 in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Genevieve “Jean” T. Curson Marry. He was a former entreprene­ur, having formed Essential Reports in Elmont, NY, which was a successful insurance investigat­ive firm. Don was a native of Manhattan, NY, from the Holy Name Parish on 96th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Don joins his late brother Albert, who were two years apart and were bosom buddies. They were very tight friends with a large group of friends that dubbed themselves “The 100th Street Gang.” Among Don’s nicknames, most famously known as “Big D” by most everyone. In addition other nicknames included “Donzi”,” Butch”, “The Old Pilot” and “Juney”, which is what his dad called him. Don was the happiest when he was surrounded by his wife Diane, his four siblings and family. Don had a love of life, was a devout Catholic, was a consummate giver, especially to various churches and charitable organizati­ons. It was important to Don to always give and take care of the poor. He was an avid reader, athletic throughout his life, in the 1970’s and 80’s, Don spent a fair amount of time in the schoolyard of PS 187 in Washington Heights hitting the ball to his sons and very often hitting the ball “over the dots” in the outfield, which meant it was a homerun. He also stayed in shape by riding his bicycle 10 miles a day up until the age of 83. Don was blessed with wonderful health and enjoyed traveling with his wife around the world on multiple occasions. He loved to entertain family and friends on their property in Gansevoort, New York, which included many pool parties, barbecues, golf cart rides with the kids which brought much joy and fond memories to all those children over the years. Don served in the US Army during The Korean War and loved his country. He was a tremendous New York Yankee fan, often rehashing the games with his son and grandchild­ren. In addition to his parents, Don was predecease­d by his sons, Donald and Stephen Marry; brother Albert Marry; brother in law Thomas Fay and nephews James O’Hara and Lawrence Brunetti. Don is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Diane Fay Marry; son Mark Marry and his wife Bernadette; sisters Maureen Marry and Helen Marry; brother John Marry and his wife Nancy; four grandchild­ren, Sean, Ryan, Matthew and Michael; seven great grandchild­ren, several nieces and nephews; daughter in law Peggy Hogan Marry and sister in law Elizabeth Marry. Relative and friends may call from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8:30pm Monday August 27, 2018 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY (518-584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Tuesday August 28, 2018 at St. Clement’s Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Burial with military honors will follow at the family plot in Gansevoort Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice.
