Festival to feature Spa State Park car rally
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.» On Saturday, Sept. 8 approximately 80 rare Bugatti sports cars will participate in a car rally at the Spa State Park as part of this weekend’s Wine & Food Festival.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., the Bugattis will depart Spa State Park and travel north on Broadway to their final destination of the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Excelsior Avenue.
The Saratoga Auto Museum in association with SPAC, The Chamber of Commerce, Saratoga Convention & Tourism, and the Mayor’s Office have planned to have the Buggatis travel down Broadway in a parade-like fashion.
The Bugattis will be led in single file format from the Hall of Springs area down The Avenue of Pines by the State Park Police. Once the procession has reached South Broadway, Saratoga Springs Police Department will become the Lead Car and continue north on South Broadway.
Once the procession has reached the intersection of Broadway and Circular Street, the Bugattis will then transition to a side-by-side format, straddling the yellow center line and travel northbound on Broadway in a parade-like style until they reach the City Center, at which time they will transition back to single file format and head to the Courtyard by Marriott via Maple Ave.
To accommodate this car parade — Broadway will be closed (from Circular St to Van Dam St) and a lane reduction of the southbound lane of the Arterial will be put into place, similar to a regular parade closure, beginning at approximately 4:15 p.m.
Also, Maple Ave (Lake Ave to Ellsworth Jones Pl) will be closed to traffic to allow the Bugattis to turn from Ellsworth Jones Pl to Maple Ave on their travel to the Courtyard by Marriott.
A police detail will be assigned to affected intersections along the South Broadway route and along the Broadway parade corridor.
