Pitney Meadows Community Gardens to host fairy gathering

By News Staff SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.» Pitney Meadows Community Gardens will host a fairy gathering for children of all ages September 22.

The event goes from noon until 3 p.m. at Pitney Meadows on 223 West Avenue.

Organizers said the gathering features 30 fairy houses created by Girl Scouts and set in a border of blooming flowers for all to enjoy.

“It is absolutely enchanting and the reactions of people as they view these tiny dwellings is magical,” said garden director, Natalie Walsh. “You have to see it. There have been tiny houses with clotheslin­es hung with miniature outfits, lounge chairs and fire pits, fairy size gardens within the garden. It is a very special event.”

Just after noon, the fairy queen will make an appearance and lead children through the gardens, as she tells a tale sure to delight.

“Children are encouraged to dress in fairy attire and join the fun as they’re entertaine­d by strolling musicians,” Walsh said.

Admission to the farm is free and activities including field games and a fairy dance that all are welcome to join.

“There will also be fairy items such as wands, wings, and fairy flower crowns for sale and fairy items raffled,” Walsh said.

All monies raised will go towards future children’s events.

In addition, Nine Miles East will have a food truck, Ben and Jerry’s will provide ice cream free to the first 300 children, and honey from the farm’s bees will be on sale.

At noon, the fairy houses will be judged and ribbons awarded. At 2 p.m. the 63 sunflowers grown by community children for the contest this summer will be measured. The tallest and the one with the biggest flower will be awarded prizes.

“The first gathering this spring drew 200 participan­ts and we hope to see many more fairy fans this fall,” Walsh said.
