LATHAM, N.Y. » The Saratoga Springs field hockey team had a short mileage, but long ride home four days ago after a 3-1 loss at the hands of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, but the Blue Streaks regrouped and rebounded Friday afternoon with an 8-0 win at Shaker High School.

“It did open our eyes to a lot of things, there were definitely things that were incorrect and we hadn’t seen enough experiences to do it,” Saratoga coach Jo-Anne Hostig said. “Hopefully it will help us because it’s beautiful when they all work together, it really is.

“There are so many different people that can do it. It’s just a confidence builder when so many do, do it and it takes the pressure of Lindsey (Frank).”

On Friday, the University of Richmond-bound field hockey and lacrosse player only scored a single goal as seven different Blue Streak players hit the back of the cage.

“I think it’s great because it really shows that we have a lot of talent and a lot of people who can score and assist,” Lindsey Frank said.

The past three days of practice weren’t about punishment or soul-searching as Hostig looked for different ways to reach her Blue Streak squad.

“We did a lot of different things,” Saratoga’s Katelyn Ginley said. “We had (Dr.) Bryan Briddell (Saratoga Peak Performance) in, we practiced at Skidmore (College) that we don’t always do. I think we just switched it up a lot and were really focused in our practices.”

Ginley kicked off Saratoga Springs followed by Frank, Molly Russell, Olivia Vukelic, Liz Pratt, dani Geils and Haley Waghorn drilled in two goals to cap the Blue Streak scoring.

The offensive explosion was always there, it just had to be uncorked.

“Every game for us is a learning experience and they’ve all been different so far and I think the Burnt Hills game was really helpful to open our eyes and see that as a team we needed to work on some things collectively,” Frank said.

Friday was dynamically different from Monday’s contest at Burnt Hills.

“Today we worked collectively as a team and playing Burnt Hills I think we were individually trying to work it there and we were trying a lot of the things that weren’t working and not changing,” Ginley said. “Today we were really open and accepting to change, listening to each other and had a good outcome.” SARATOGA 8, SHAKER 0 Scoring: Saratoga — Katelyn Ginley 1-0, Lindsey Frank 1-0, Molly Russell 1-0, Olivia Vukelic 1-0, Liz Pratt 1-0, Dani Geils 1-0, Haley Waghorn 2-0.
