BRUNSWICK, N.Y. » The Halloween season officially begins in Brunswick this weekend as Field of Horrors kicks off its fifth year of frightening guests.

The local haunted attraction is opening for its annual Sneak Peek Weekend this Friday and Saturday at 100 Farrell Rd. in Brunswick.

This year, Field of Horrors features five different upgraded and enhanced experiences for guests to enjoy. The Trail of Terror hayride, which will bring a cycle of six wagons through 10 scenes this year, along with four haunted houses: the 5,00-square-foot Death Trap, a strobe-light chain link fence maze called Insanity, the eerily revamped Return of Mummy’s Curse and Toxic Terror, a toxic waste plant filled with mutant creatures.

Within the past few weeks a group of 140 Field of Horrors employees have been working hard to make this season as scary as possible.

“People pay to get scared,” said owner David Mulinio, who creates all of the scenes along with his wife Stacy and employee Matt Dinon.

What brings that creepy scenery to life is the actors, many of them professional, who interact with the guests throughout the entire property. This year, Field of Horrors increased its acting staff to a total of 110 monsters, villains, freaks, ghosts and ghouls.

“Every year I feel we’re getting bigger and bigger,” Mulinio said. “We’re adding more people, more actors - and we’re satisfying everybody.”

When Mulinio and his wife first decided to start a haunted attraction at their Capital Combat Zone paintball facility, they never imagined it would grow into this huge endeavor.

Field of Horrors was voted upstate New York’s best haunted attraction at newyorkupstate. com in 2016 and 2017 - and this year it’s got more than 71 percent of the vote in radio station WGNA’s poll for Scariest Halloween Haunt in the Capital Region.

Looking ahead, the Field of Horrors crew is already planning how to make next year’s event even bigger and better with a Haunted Bayou for 2019.

But first, over the next few weeks thousands of thrill-seekers will come to Field of Horrors with the intent to get frightened. For its Sneak Peek Weekend, Field of Horrors will be open from 6:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and admission will be $17 per person, including entrance to all attractions.

For the month of October, when admission is regularly

$27 per person, Field of Horrors is scheduled to be open from 6 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday as well as Oct. 7 (the Sunday before Columbus Day), Sunday Oct. 21, and Thursday through Sunday the week before Halloween.

Field of Horrors is meant for both children and adults, but it is suggested that children who attend are at least 10 years old.

To see all Field of Horrors has to offer, guests should plan to spend at least two hours on site.

Food vendors, including Jack’s Drive In of Wynantskill, will be on-site throughout the season.

More information, including a full schedule and ticket purchasing, is available online at fieldofhorrors.com or the Field of Horrors Facebook page.
