The News Apartments holds grand opening event

TROY, N.Y. >> Current and former members of The Record newsroom gathered on Friday to talk about the past, present and future of local news during a grand opening celebratio­n for The News Apartments.

The recently completed project is located at 501 Broadway in downtown Troy. The property, which was home to The Record for more than a century, has been transforme­d by The Rosenblum Companies into an amenitylad­en apartment complex.

The News Apartments, which is is currently at 100 percent occupancy, chose to mark the occasion by bring together a panel of people associated with the paper. The discussion, titled The Newsroom: Community Cornerston­e and held at Bard & Baker board game café on the ground floor of The News Apartments, featured Capital Region journalist­s Eric Anderson, Mike DeMasi and Lauren Halligan as well as former Record editor Lisa Lewis, who moderated, and welcome remarks by former Record editor Rex Smith.

Panelists told stories about their time at The Record and their careers beyond, providing attendees a rare look into the unique experience­s and perspectiv­es of these experience­d journalist­s.

During the event, developer The Rosenblum Companies also announced their support of The Record’s longtime Clothe-A-Child program with a $1,906 donation, along with a pledge to donate more in the future.
