Man creates new type of mousetrap
Craftsman calls his product the Mousieleum
NORTHUMBERLAND, N.Y. >> A local craftsman said that he has created a “better mouse-trapping environment,” one that allows homeowners to place a loaded trap in the home without dogs or cats getting into trouble with the trap or a trapped rodent.
A new product called the Mousieleum is designed and manufactured by Tico Vogt of Northumberland.
Vogt said it’s a simple box with a slide-out tray with door and mouse hole and a screened viewing portal on top. Traps are placed inside the box. The scent from the bait can spread out through the hole and the owner can look through it and quickly determine if the trap has sprung.
“I first addressed this problem when a young puppy was introduced to our house and got into a well-known mouse poison product that was underneath a piece of furniture,” Vogt said. “It was a very traumatic experience. He was fine after an expensive trip to the emergency veterinarian. I began to look into poisons and concluded they are not only dan-
gerous, but insidiously inhumane.” The Mousieleum is not a menacing looking object and conceals most of the unattractive business of killing the rodent. Its effectiveness is also increased because it doesn’t have to be placed in an obscure corner, and it can be placed up high out of the way of pets.
Other benefits are that ticks are less likely to migrate into the house off the animal, and rodents not completely killed can’t drag the trap around. For information go to: https://ticovogt. com/?page_id=2482.
