‘Howl-o-ween’ celebration a hit with area pooches
COHOES, N.Y. >> A downpour causing a change in venue didn’t deter a pack of pups and their owners from sporting costumes and having a fun time.
The “Howl-o-ween” event held at the Hudson Square Apartments Community Room, featured dogs and their owners in costume, a contest for best costume, music from FLY 92.3 and booths set up with all kinds of doggy treats and goodies, including PawJackers Dog Treats.
The City of Cohoes, Albany Broadcasting Company and Curtis Lumber joined together to sponsor the event.
All dogs large and small were wearing Halloween seasonal clothing and costumes, with some even matching their owners. The close quarters made for a friendly space for the playful pups.
“I’m originally from Florida so I saw the crocodile and I said why not? She hasn’t visited Florida, so hopefully after this we’ll go,” Sonia Orozco said of her standard sized poodle named Luna. “She’s going to be one next month, she’s very friendly.
“I live in the building so I said hey, why not? Even if it was outside I would’ve come, it’s a chance to spend time with other dogs, so it’s pretty cool that the city does this.”
Also going with the aquatic look was Stephanie Rodriguez’s dog Cheese.
“My dog’s Cheese, he’s two, he’s a rescue, he’s a pit mix and today he is a pirate shark,” Rodriguez said of her pup shark.
“It’s awesome, it’s nice to have different vendors to shop for your dog, I like to spoil my dog and seeing different options,” Rodriguez said of the different tables set up at the event.
A dog named Layla, who along with her owner, donned a Peter Pan themed costume, took home first prize in the costume contest.
