Saratoga Springs, NY - Bruce Kirkpatrick, 67 of Saratoga Springs passed away at home on Wednesday, November 7 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Robert and Audrey Kirkpatrick. Bruce is survived his wife of 37 years, Joanne and daughter Kacie, brother Jim, brother in law Ron and many cousins and nephews and friends too numerous to count. Bruce graduated from Glens Falls High School and Syracuse University where he was a member of the track and field team. After graduation, he worked for LUMAC Company, a land management firm based in Malta, NY, he eventually became the owner of the company until his retirement. He was a 40-year member of the Gooley Club, a hunting and fishing club in the Adirondacks where he served as President and for many years as a board member. Bruce was an avid hunter, fisherman and sailor. He was his happiest when on the water sailing, kayaking, or fishing or in the woods hunting. Bruce had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh, even at his own expense. Among his many community commitments, Bruce was very active in the Saratoga YMCA Swim team and while Kacie was competing he served as the official videographer. He was a co-founder of the Saratoga Floodlight Players, a youth theater group. He strongly believed that performing in front of an audience was a wonderful way for young people to develop a sense of self confidence. Bruce served on the Board of Directors of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce for 6 years where he was vocal advocate for Saratoga County’s small businesses. He could also sell, or twist arms, and was a top producer on many of the Chamber’s annual membership blitzes. Bruce served for ten years on the Board of the Saratoga Hospital Foundation where he chaired the Annual Campaign twice. He was also a dedicated volunteer for the Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau. Bruce was a member of the Leadership Saratoga class of 1990 and he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni award in 1999 for his years of selfless community service. Bruce’s family would like to thank Kelly Regels for all she did for Bruce and his family during Bruce’s illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice (www. communityhospice.org) and to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (www.michaeljfox.org).
