WILTON, N.Y. >> Cumberland Farms celebrated its latest local opening on Tuesday with a ribbon cutting and kick-off to a charitable giving campaign benefiting Code Blue Saratoga.

The new 571 Maple Ave. Cumberland Farms convenience store, which opened in late August at the corner of Route 9 and Daniels Road in Wilton, held a grand opening event on Tuesday afternoon that included free samples, giveaways, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Additionally, this celebration marked the start of a four-week fundraiser through which 10 cents from each dispensed beverages purchased will be donated to Code Blue Saratoga. This program of Shelters of Saratoga is an emergency homeless shelter that provides temporary unrestricted shelter to individuals who are homeless during periods of hazardous winter weather.

“We are certainly grateful for their generosity and the exposure that it brings to our programs,” Rosemary Riedhammer, director of development and marketing for Shelters of Saratoga, said at the event.

Already making ties within the local community, Cumberland Farms is glad to now be part of the Spa City region. “We’re excited to finally be in the Saratoga-Wilton area. We’ve always been on the outskirts of the area,” said store manager Nicolette Nelson, an 11-year employee who previously managed a Queensbury Cumberland Farms location.

The 5,275-square-foot site is one of Cumberland Farms’

“next generation” stores, complete with kiosk ordering terminals, an interior high-top bar counter, outdoor patio seating, 38 parking spaces, and eight fueling pumps.

“It’s one of our newest model stores, so it has a ton of offerings in regards to frozen beverages, cold brew coffee, a grab-and-go pizza display,” Nelson continued. “It’s exciting to bring something different like that to an area that hasn’t been accustomed to it.”

Each day, team members have one on one interactions with customers, introducing them to different offerings, such as the Cumberland Farms SmartPay loyalty program.

“It’s been an adventure,” Nelson said, crediting her staff with helping the soft opening period go smoothly and successfully.

As for the customers, “People have been very welcoming,” Nelson said.

On a daily basis, customers enjoy several new food and beverage options, like smoothies, frozen espresso, milkshakes, and specialty coffee drinks. The expanded food menu features a variety of specialty items, including ciabatta sandwiches and Mac ‘N Cheese Bites, all of which can be ordered quickly and easily on self-service ordering terminals.

These more recent brand rollouts, all presented at the new local store, are part of its efforts to enhance customer experience and compete with fast-casual restaurants.

“Since 2009, Cumberland Farms has opened or updated over 330 stores, and donated over $450,000 to community organizations across the Northeast and Florida,” said Ari Haseotes, CEO of Cumberland Farms, in a press release. “As we have passed the halfway point in our efforts, we could not be happier with the response we’ve received from the community. We’re looking forward to bringing our new stores and menu items to all of the communities in which we serve, and to raising even more money for our local partners along the way.”
