Ducks to stay in Anaheim through 2048

ANAHEIM, CALIF. (AP) >> Anaheim has approved a deal that will keep the Ducks in the local Honda Center through at least 2048.

The City Council on Tuesday approved a deal that extends the current Ducks agreement, which ends in 2023, by 25 years. The deal also permits up to five additional five-year extensions.

The team also promises to continue featuring Anaheim in its name.

The Ducks are owned by Anaheim Arena Management, which operates the city-owned stadium.

The agreement sells the company 16 acres of nearby land to develop for $10 million as long as parking is still provided. The city also gets a larger cut of arena revenues.

Team owners Henry and Susan Samueli issued a statement saying they’re thrilled that the Ducks have “a strong and secure future in Anaheim.” COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) >> The Ohio Supreme Court says the Cincinnati Reds are exempt from paying tax on the purchase of bobbleheads and other promotional items the baseball team offers to ticket buyers.

The opinion written by Justice Patrick Fischer warned that Wednesday’s ruling was specific to the case and might not apply for other sports organizations.

But the Department of Taxation’s chief legal counsel, Matt Chafin (CHAY’-fihn), says the decision essentially shows professional teams how to avoid the “use tax” on promotional items.

The department argued the bobbleheads should be taxed because they’re bought by the Reds as giveaways, not sold with tickets. The Reds argued they’re exempt because they resell the items as part of the ticket package and Ohio law exempts companies from paying tax on items they buy to resell. MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, ALA. (AP) >> Authorities say four relatives of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones have been wounded in a shooting at an Alabama trailer park.

Al.com reports Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack says the cause of the Sunday shooting remains unclear. He says Jermain Dickerson, Tamarius Dickerson and Royald Jones confronted Jahlen Baker at gunpoint in Magnolia Springs. Mack says the Dickersons and Baker are brothers, and Royald Jones is a cousin. Mack says Julio Jones is either a cousin or uncle to the men.

He says Baker was shot in the abdomen and remains in critical condition. The other three were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition or have been released.
