Chmiel, Kurto named Runners of the Year

By Stan Hudy SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Saratoga Springs senior Kelsey Chmiel was named the senior runner of the year Tuesday by the New York State Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n who announced its annual all-state team selections. She was joined by teammate Ella Kurto selected as the freshman of the Year.

North Rockland junior Katelyn Tuohy, repeated as the NYSSWA Runner of the Year selection.

Both Blue Streaks were named to the Class A firstteam with Ballston Spa runner, junior Faith Demars selected to the second-team.

Saratoga seventh-grader Emily Bush, Shenendeho­wa junior Jada Dennis and Niskayuna freshman Liyat Kebbede were all fourthteam selections. Shenendeho­wa junior Hannah Bellevile and Bethlehem junior Gillian Roederwere both fifth team honorees.

Shaker seventh-grader Leonni Griffin and eighthgrad­er Kaleigh Higgins, along with Saratoga eighthgrad­er Mckinley Wheeler were sixth-team Class A selections.

Bethlehem eighth-grader Rylee Davis, Shenendeho­wa freshman Luccabella Hotaling, Saratoga senior Ciara Knott, Blue Streak eighthgrad­er Skyler Knott, Colonie senior Kathryn Tenney and Saratoga eighth-grader Sheridan Wheeler were all honorable mentions.

In Class B, Burnt HillsBalls­ton Lake senior Rory Graham and Mohonasen sophomore Kate Sherman were both named to the NYS second-team.

Burnt Hills freshman Emily Berg was a thirdteam honoree with classmate Jamisen Vendetti named to the fifth-team squad. Averill Park eighthgrad­er Logan Barsalow and Schalmont sophomore Mya June were both Class B honorable mentions.

A pair of Greenwich runners, freshman Nina Sgambellur­i and junior Brynne Wright were both firstteam honorees with teammates, junior Emma Cronin and eighth-grader Teagan Wright selected to the New York State second team.

Schuylervi­lle junior Sunni Labounty was a third-team selection with Greenwich junior Brooke Wright receiving an honorable mention in Class C.

Mayfield sophomore Madison Relyea led the locals with Class D first-team honors, joined by Duanesburg senior Elaine Atanasova on the second team and Hoosic Valley eighthgrad­er Lily Czub named to the third-team.

Maple Hill eighth-grader Angelina Pusateri, BerneKnox-Westerlo sophomore Michelle Puzulis, Lake George sophomore Elizabeth Radyn and Duanesburg senior Jennifer Skeeter were all Class D honorable mentions.
