Ballston Spa man gets 10 years for child porn
ALBANY, N.Y. >> A Ballston Spa man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison for receipt and possession of child pornography.
Jason Novoa, 38, was also sentenced to 20 years of supervised release when his term is up. In addition, he was ordered to pay $5,000 in restitution to one of the victims portrayed in the child pornography he possessed, and he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.
Novoa pled guilty on July 17 when he admitted that, over a period of at least five years, he used a laptop computer equipped with peer-to-peer file-sharing software to search for and download videos and images depicting child pornography.
He also admitted that from June 9-13, 2017, he made available for download over 800 images of child pornography. Novoa additionally possessed approximately 30 video files and 310 image files depicting child pornography when his laptop was seized by investigators on June 29, 2017.
This case was investigated by the FBI and state police, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emmet O’Hanlon as part of Project Safe Childhood.
Launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, Project Safe Childhood is led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
Novoa was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Gary L. Sharpe.
