Section 2 tourney top seeds announced

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Section 2 Wrestling committee released the top four seeds in the Division 1 (Large School) and Division 2 (Small School) brackets for Saturday’s Section 2 tournament at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

Saratoga Springs will be represente­d by two No. 1 seeds in the tournament, junior Eric Griskowitz (35-4) at 138 pounds and senior Brant Robinson (35-1) at 195.

Columbia also has a pair of top seeds in the large school division with junior Aiden Scott (30-2) at 120 and junior Jacob Edwards (415) at 162.

Defending state champion, Shenendeho­wa’s Stevo Poulin (37-0) is the top seed at 106 and will be joined by Plainsmen sophomore Brock Delsignore (36-7) as the top seed at 145.

Shaker freshman Jashon Holmes (38-3) was the top seed at 99 pounds with Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake senior Jakai Townsend (38-6 ) listed as the top seed at 170. Averill Park junior Nik Koch (25-0) is the top seed at 220 and Ballston Spa senior Jake Stangle (33-5) is the top seed at 285.

In the small school division, Maple Hill has a pair of brothers once again at the top of the Section 2 Division 2 bracket with junior Caleb Svingala (37-1) the top

seed at 106 pounds and senior Trent Svingala (39-0) the top seed at 132.

Galway’s sophomore Joey Scheeren (30-1) is the top seed at 113 followed by Tamarac senior Riley Retell (373) the top seed at 120 and Hoosick Falls senior Craig Sawyer (32-1) the top seed at 285.

The Section 2 Wrestling Tournament gets underway at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Cool Insuring Arena with the finals set for a 7 p.m. dual mat start. There will be a separate admission price for the preliminar­y rounds and the evenings finals.
