Flurry Festival connects, inspires through traditional music and dance
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Dancers of all ages will enjoy the major lineup of international music and dance experiences planned for the Flurry Festival over President’s Weekend from Feb. 15-17.
Now in its 32nd year, the event is organized by The DanceFlurry Organization (Hudson-Mohawk Traditional Dances, Inc.), a nonprofit group dedicated to connecting and inspiring people through traditional music and dance.
Festival headquarters are found throughout the Saratoga Springs City Center and Saratoga Hilton Hotel, with more performances and workshops scheduled at the Parting Glass Pub, Putnam Den, and Excelsior Springs.
Events this year will include a huge lineup of programs for families with young children, programs for teens and all ages with international music, singing, jamming, storytelling and dance events. Family dances, square dancing, storytelling, puppet shows, movement games and sing-a-longs are planned for young children.
Teens will have youth-only contra and Irish set dance, techno contra dances, teen level sing-alongs, story tellings, a teen talent showcase, teen jam session, World dance for teens, body percussion workshops, swing dancing, and other international experiences with music, song, and dance.
Along with non-stop contra and swing, the weekend long programming includes dance styles such as Tahitian, French, Balkan, African, Indian, German, Irish, Scottish, English, and more.
