Discover Saratoga honors Hometown Ambassadors
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Discover Saratoga recently honored a group of Hometown Ambassadors at its annual meeting and breakfast, which welcomed a crowd of 150 members, government officials and past chairs
In addition to highlighting the successes of 2018 and initiatives for 2019 at the 34th annual event, held Tuesday at the Saratoga Springs City Center, the organization announced the 2018 Discover Saratoga Hometown Ambassadors and volunteers of the year.
The hometown ambassador program honors local individuals who brought their convention or event to Saratoga Springs. This year, the honorees were Jacqueline Grande and Susan Murphy of REVEAL International Contemporary Art Fair, Brian Dwyer and Tom Hoffman of JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes 2018,
Tamara Flanders of the Dance Flurry, Charles Wheeler and MaryLou Wheeler of the American Society of Arms Collectors and Susan Waghorn and Jeff Perkins of the Avant Garde Alumni Reunion and Saratoga Wilton Elks Flag Day Parade 2018.
Two volunteers of the year were recognized as well. Noreen Baker was recognized as Discover Saratoga’s volunteer of the year, and Warella Browall was awarded by the Saratoga Springs Heritage Area Visitor Center.
Discover Saratoga also announced its 2019 board of directors, including new candidates Samantha Bosshart of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, Michele Desrosiers of Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Teddy Foster of Universal Preservation Hall, Thomas Olsen of (Saratoga Hilton and Alex Tucker of Saratoga Casino Hotel.
The following candidates were elected to serve as officers: AJ Bodden of Albany Broadcasting as chairperson, Cindy Hollowood of Saratoga Springs Holiday Inn as immediate past chair, Dan Fortier of Embassy Suites as incoming chair, Megan Hennessey of Saratoga Automobile Museum as treasurer and Amy Smith of Saratoga Arms as at-large officer.
The Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau (DBA Discover Saratoga) was incorporated in 1985 and aims to serve as a key economic driver of the community.
The mission of the organization is to contribute a positive impact on the local economy by positioning and marketing Saratoga Springs and Saratoga County as a world-class destination for meetings, conventions and groups. As an independent 501-c6 non-profit organization, the bureau is responsible to a 20-member board of directors who represent the membership of more than 500 local and regional businesses.
