ValleyCats to host pair of events to benefit Make-A-Wish Northeast New York

TROY, N.Y. >> The Tri-City ValleyCats will continue their longlastin­g partnershi­p with MakeA-Wish Northeast New York by offering support through a pair of events during the 2019 season.

The team will host “Swishes for Wishes Night” on Sunday, July 28 at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, and will also hold its sixth annual “Walk for Wishes” on Saturday, Aug. 10, with proceeds benefiting the organizati­on.

Held as part of a three-game weekend home series against the Connecticu­t Tigers, “Swishes for Wishes will see the ValleyCats team up with Make-A-Wish and the Harlem Globetrott­ers as a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Northeast New York.

The team will wear Harlem Globetrott­ers-themed baseball jerseys which will be auctioned off during the game using Live Source. It will serve as the second of four specialty jersey nights that the ‘Cats will have in 2019.

While the team is on the road, the ValleyCats will host their sixth annual Walk for Wishes on Saturday, Aug. 10, beginning at 10 a.m. at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

Walk For Wishes Northeast New York is part of a nationwide Make-A-Wish® fundraiser that celebrates the more than 300,000 wishes that have already been granted across the country, and the more than 1,850 wishes that have been granted locally while raising funds for future wishes. It’s a family-friendly event powered by wish families, volunteers, companies, donors and friends.

“The ValleyCats have a great partnershi­p with Make-A-Wish Northeast New York and are happy be involved in many MakeA-Wish events each year,” Assistant General Manager Michelle Skinner said in a news release.

“In addition to hosting wish families at the ballpark and raising funds for wishes on Swishes for Wishes Night, we are excited to hold the 6th Annual Walk for Wishes at “The Joe” on August 10, 2019. We encourage all our fans to join us at The Joe for these events and to support local wishes,” Skinner added.

This year, Skinner will represent the ValleyCats in going the extra mile to raise money for Make-A-Wish. She will participat­e in the ninth annual Wish Jump, held in Gardiner, New York on July 20. The event is held as the only annual skydiving fundraiser for a Make-A-Wish chapter in the country.
