SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY >> As the only stakes winner in a field of seven that included two maidens and two maiden winners, Kid Is Frosty figured to be wellsupported in Wednesday’s $150k Statue of Liberty Division, part of the New York Stallion Series.

Sent on her way at 8-5, the Frost Giant filly made the lead when the expected pace pressure from Subsidiary did not materialize. Once she shook off Bangle Gal on the turn, Kid Is Frosty was never seriously threatened the rest of the way. She extended her advantage in the stretch, leading by 2½ lengths at the eighth pole and by three at the wire. The time for a mile over a “good” Inner Turf course was 1:35.22.

Favored Niko’s Dream finished three lengths clear of Sterling Beauty for the place. Rossellini, Dancing Slippers, Bangle Gal and Subsidiary also ran.

“The main thing was to relax her,” said winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr, “and when she broke, she relaxed into the first turn. On the backside, she was still relaxed. I knew I was going to have something at the end, and she handled it really well.”

The victory came in Kid Is Frosty’s second start on turf (the first was at seven furlongs) after she’d compiled a 1-4-2 record in seven dirt starts.

“I think she feels at home on the turf,” said Dustin Dugas, assistant to winning trainer Brad Cox. “I was a little concerned about the making the mile today, but she was never in doubt. The plan was to play the break and go from there. Once [Kid Is Frosty] got to the front, she kicked on and was comfortable the whole way.”

A Bad Boy Racing homebred, Kid Is Frosty now sports a 9-3-2-4 record over all, with total earnings of $280,834.
