HOUSE: On Sunday, August 11th from noon to 5 p.m., the 1777 Schuyler House, on Route 4 in Schuylervi­lle, will be the setting for dozens of artisans demonstrat­ing their crafts much as they were plied over 200 years ago when household items were handcrafte­d. Visitors are advised to dress for hot weather, bring water, and wear insect repellent and sunscreen. Visitors to the 40th annual 18th Century Day will be able to enjoy the Schuyler House, see 18th century Punch & Judy puppet shows, and see artisans exhibiting period crafts such as quilting, butter making, cross-stitching, herbalist, blacksmith­ing, rug hooking, knitting, basket making, teamster, spinning, sheep shearing, needle working, yarn dyeing, and 18th -century medicine. Children can try their hand at candle dipping and colonial toys and games. This traditiona­l event is organized by the Old Saratoga Historical Associatio­n, a non-profit educationa­l organizati­on that provides furnishing­s for the Schuyler House and promotes interest in the history of Old Saratoga, Schuylervi­lle, Victory and the Town of Saratoga. YOUTH FISHING TOURNAMENT: L.L.I.A.’s 24th annual children’s fishing tournament will take place on Sunday, August 11th at the Washington County Park Pavilion on beautiful Lake Lauderdale. The tournament is free and open to all young anglers age 15 and under and is strictly catch and release only. The tournament runs from 8:0010:30 a.m. and concludes with a free hot dog lunch for all participan­ts. As always, there will be no fee charged to children entering the contest. Registrati­on opens at 7:30 a.m. and all young anglers are required to stop at the pavilion prior to getting their fishing lines wet. There will be several different age groups and L.L.I.A. is working hard to ensure that all participan­ts receive a small prize. HONOR A VETERAN: The Rensselaer County Honor a Deceased Veteran Program will honor Anthony A. Maier at this month’s ceremony, to be held on August 12, 2019 at 0830 in the Legislativ­e Chambers, Third Floor of the County Office Bldg. located at 1600 Seventh Avenue, Troy. Anthony served as a Truck Driver in the United States Army during WWII and in the United States Navy during the Korean War helping to get troops and equipment where they were needed. For his honorable service he received The American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After his service Anthony returned home, married and began a family and local business working as a Remodeling Contractor.
