FILM SHOWING: “Born to Rein” film showing and reception: Featuring the life of Nebraska horsemen and Hall of Fame members John A. Nerud and father-andson Marion and Jack Van Berg. Nerud, a Navy veteran and one of America’s most accomplish­ed and revered thoroughbr­ed trainers and breeders, co-founded the prestigiou­s Breeders’ Cup. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1972. Marion Van Berg was the nation’s leading owner in racing victories 14 times and was the first Nebraskan inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 1970. Like his father, Jack Van Berg set numerous records and was inducted into the Hall of Fame. His best horse, Alysheba, won the 1987 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Breeders’ Cup Classic, and was Horse of the Year in 1988. “Born to Rein” will also commemorat­e the 100th anniversar­y of America’s first Triple Crown Winner, Sir Barton, as the documentar­y film will pay homage to his time as an U.S. Army Remount Service Stallion at Fort Robinson near Crawford, Neb. YADDO GARDEN TOURS: Garden tours only include sharing the history of the Trask family, the mansion and the history of Yaddo Gardens. The aura, spirituali­ty and creative energy that permeates Yaddo is discussed. Docent-led Tours begin at 11 a.m., Saturdays and Sundays beginning June 15 through Sept. 1., 2019 and on Tuesdays during the racing season. (No Tours on Travers Day). Meet at the main fountain near the entrance to the garden. Tours last about one hour/cost is $10 per person. Private docent-led garden tours may be arranged at a date and time convenient to a group.
