By Stan Hudy SARTOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Saratoga Springs sophomore Alex Savage is finding ways to drive Pink Sheet sales just as much as he finds his way to the basket during his rec basketball time locally.

At just 15-years-old The Pink Sheet was an ideal way for this young man to earn some extra money to support his movie going hobby and investing potentially in his next career.

“I really needed a job because I don’t get a lot of summer hours and my mom came home with a flyer that she found and I signed up,” Alex Savage said. “Now I’m here.”

Like any Pink Sheet Kid on Union Avenue, East Avenue or Nelson Avenue, The Pink Sheet sometimes sells itself by its traditional historic color, but that’s not always a guarantee.

“It is more difficult than it seems,” Savage said. “Now I really feel bad for all those salespersons I walk by in the street.”

But there are valuable lessons learned by the Blue Streak sophomore.

“You get to meet new people and most of them are really nice,” Savage said.

One thing that stood out when observing the firstyear Pink Sheet Kid is his use of ‘Good Morning’ and ‘Thank You’ with or without a sale.

“It’s just something that my parents taught me when I was little,” Savage said. ““It’s a habit, a good habit.”

When not selling The Pink Sheet this summer, Savage is racing up and down the hardwood or in the spring on the outside oval for the Saratoga track team.

Despite strong skills in science and math at Saratoga Springs High School Savage is drawn to the cinematic arts.

“I like looking into films and how they are made,” Savage said. “I like action or mystery and my favorite director is Christopher Nolan.

“I do like the superhero genre, they’re pretty good but I don’t dramatic films, but I do like things from Quentin Tarantino.”

He admits to binge watching some Netflix classics like ‘Breaking Bad,’ watching ‘Fast and the Furious’ with his dad and seeing Marvel’s ‘Endgame’ twice.

“I saw it with my friends and my brother and then my dad didn’t go see it,” Savage said. “I said ‘You have to see it.’”

Another tip that Savage his a film buff is his love of ‘Easter Eggs’ or hidden messages, characters, images or hints in movies.

“I love to look out for Easter Eggs, when I see it and no one else notices it, it’s just great,” Savage said.

While promoting the thoroughbreds on Union Avenue, Savage has his own pair of entertaining animals at home.

“I own two birds, parakeets,” Savage said. “They’re like an alarm clock, 6 a.m. so I have to close my shades.

“I let my brother name the blue one, he likes the Tar Heels, so I named him after the mascot, and his name is Ramsey. The other one (green) I named him Shapiro because a friend told me to do it.”
