A small field of six is entered in today’s $200,000 Saranac Stakes (G3), a 1 1/16mile race for 3-year-olds on the Inner Turf. Several of the entrants have already had quite a bit of experience, but the 2-1 morning-line favorite is making just his second career start.

That would be the British-bred Good Governance, whose lone outing resulted in a victory at a mile on turf in a maiden special at Saratoga on Aug. 4. The Chad Brown conditioned son of Kingman, last in the early going, rampaged through the stretch to get up by a nose.

After encouraging performances last spring in the American Turf and Pennine Ridge, Seismic Wave (5-2) didn’t fare as well this summer in the longer distances of the Belmont Derby and Saratoga Derby. The son of Tapit, another off-the-pace type, is trained by Bill Mott.

Five nominees for the Saranac came out of the Hall of Fame Stakes here on Aug. 2. Global Access (9-2) is the only one of the five entered in today’s race. The Giant’s Causeway colt has compiled a 1-0-3 record in five turf starts. Michael Trombetta conditions the Live Oak homebred, who finished a close third in the Hall of Fame at 9-1.

The New York-bred Rinaldi exits a pair of wins in New York Stallion Series events at shorter distances. The gelded son of Posse, who is trained by Jim Bond, has shown speed from the gate and may be the one to catch here.

Tracksmith (7-2) has a minor stakes win at Monmouth among his three victories. Maiden winner Power Player is the biggest price on the morning line at 10-1.
