TASTE OF MALTA: The Malta Business & Profession­al Associatio­n is happy to announce the 11th Annual Taste of Malta event scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at Hudson Valley Community College’s TEC-SMART, 345 Hermes Rd., Malta. Each year, cuisine from local Malta and surroundin­g area restaurant­s is offered for tasting and sampling. LIFTING UP WOMEN’S VOICES FROM THE PAST: Thursday, September 12, 7 p.m., Hadley Senior Center, 23 Maple St., Hadley. Patricia Nugent, author of Before They Were Mothers, discusses the role of women in our society during times of challenges and before “Rosie the Riveter.” The book was conceived when the author realized, at her mother’s funeral, that she knew very little about her mother’s life before her mother was a mother. This journal takes a look at the universal themes which threads the lives of women of long ago – arranged marriages, the role of faith and religion, healing and medical advances along with poverty and prejudice.
