BALLSTON SPA UPK: The Ballston Spa Central School District is currently enrolling students for its Universal Prekinderg­arten Program for the 2019-2020 school year. An eligible child is a child who resides within the school district and who is four years of age on or before December 1, 2019. A child who is age-eligible to attend kindergart­en is not eligible for the UPK program. Openings are currently available at the Ballston Area Community Center for this free Universal Pre-Kindergart­en Program which starts in September! The 2 ½ hour per day Monday-Friday, statefunde­d program is taught by certified teachers with training in early education. The research based curriculum will promote a child’s total growth and developmen­t in all areas including emergent literacy that will instill lifelong independen­t learning skills. The BACC offers two sessions at 20 Malta Ave. in Ballston Spa. The morning session is from 9:00-11:30am and the afternoon session is from 12:30-3:00pm. SARATOGA STRESS REDUCTION PROGRAM: Join us for the Saratoga Stress Reduction Program, an eight-week Mindfulnes­s Based Stress Reduction course taught by Selma Nemer, PhD, and Pierre Zimmerman, MS, in which students learn mindfulnes­sbased meditation as a practice for growth and healing. Our credential­ed instructor­s have taught locally, nationally, and internatio­nally for over 10 years. We have taught over 100 classes in Saratoga with over 3000 graduates. Classes are offered on Tuesday evenings 5:30pm for our fall session beginning September 24th. Class size is limited and we accept some insurances. FOAL PATROL: Hot City Girl, a standout New Yorkbred mare who resides at Vivien Malloy’s Edition Farm in Hyde Park, will be on the roster of featured horses for the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame’s Foal Patrol Season 2, which will debut online in December at www.foalpatrol.com. The first season of Foal Patrol, a one-of-a-kind collection of live cameras following the daily activities of in-foal mares, had more than 1.6 million views from December 2017 through September 2018. The Museum will be making weekly announceme­nts of the participat­ing horses leading up to the debut of Season 2 in late December. ILIUM LITERARY CLUB: The Ilium Literary Club of Troy, NY will begin its 97th year on October 4, 2019. The Club meets 6 times a year (October, November, December 2019, April, May & June 2020). FIELD TO FORK: Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Saratoga County, in associatio­n with CCE Warren County and Upper Hudson River Valley QDMA, are proud to announce our Fall 2019 program, Field to Fork. The program is aimed towards people who would like to learn more about self-sufficienc­y and sustainabi­lity through deer hunting. The classes will be taught in correlatio­n with hunting season and stress safety as well as health benefits. Instructio­n will include: hunter education, license, hunting as it relates to conservati­on, understand­ing deer, making ethical shots, hunting essentials, field game care, meat processing preservati­on, and cooking venison. SUPPORT GROUP FOR TEENS: Saratoga Center for the Family is pleased to offer a new support group for transgende­r, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and gender questionin­g teens. The purpose of the group is to offer a safe space for those wishing to share experience­s and to receive support from peers. Therapist Paula Zimmerman, LMHC, will lead the group two Wednesday afternoons each month. THE WAY WE WERE CAR SHOW: The 17th Annual “The Way We Were” Car Show is Coming in October! The Ballston Spa Business & Profession­al Associatio­n (BSBPA) is pleased to announce plans for the 17th Annual “The Way We Were” Car Show to be held Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 9 am-4 pm on Front Street in Ballston Spa. The rain date will be October 20. Front Street will be blocked off from Milton Avenue past the Old Iron Springs to accommodat­e car exhibits and vendors. In addition to food and merchandis­e vendors, the show will again feature a “Kids Zone”, located by the Old Iron Springs, which will feature free children’s activities. The car show is a judged show and several trophies will be awarded, including Best of Show, Mayor’s Choice, Best Engine, Best Paint, Best Stock, Oldest Vehicle plus the top 3 in specified categories. Judging begins at 9 am with trophies awarded at 3:30 pm. The event is free to spectators. Exhibitors can pre-register by September 30, 2019 for $15 per car or $20 the day of show. All proceeds will benefit BSBPA community activities. Dash plaques will be given to the first 400 cars registered and the first 200 cars registered will receive car show souvenirs. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF DANCE DOCENTS: The National Museum of Dance is seeking volunteer docents to lead Museum tours in the upcoming exhibition season. The Museum offers free tours each Tuesday at 11 a.m. with paid admission as well as private group tours throughout the year. LWV VOTER GUIDE: The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County will again be producing an informatio­n guide for voters for the School District Elections. FABULOUS AND FAST: The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame’s newest exhibition, “Fabulous and Fast: The Female Horses of the Hall of Fame,” celebrates the 66 Hall of Fame fillies and mares features photograph­s, art, artifacts, and multimedia from the Museum Collection. Race footage, Hall of Fame induction ceremony highlights and a comprehens­ive chart detailing their lineage and accomplish­ments provides additional insight into their Hall of Fame careers. USS SLATER: USS SLATER, the only remaining World War II Destroyer Escort afloat in America, is open to the public for its 22nd season on the Hudson River in Albany. COME TOGETHER INITIATIVE: “Come Together” is a 17’ high site-specific interactiv­e sculpture made for the historic Salem Courthouse by Vivien Abrams-Collens to celebrate its transforma­tion from a jail and courthouse to a vibrant community center. Visitors can show their support for the community and the sculpture by purchasing painted locks from the Community Center for $10, signing their names and placing the locks on the gridded bars of the sculpture.
