SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Local dog Lucky has a new tale to share with youngsters as she stars in her second children’s book “Lucky’s Adventure in Winter Wonderland.”

Authored by native Saratogian and local businesswoman Elizabeth Macy, Lucky’s owner, this new picture book is the second in a series about her beloved dog.

In her latest story, with a seasonal theme, Macy aims to teach the importance of giving back.

“When Lucky’s mom tells her it is a snow day, Lucky is off to spend the day with her doggie friends snowshoeing, skating and skiing,” the book’s synopsis reads. “Inspired by the Lucky life she now has, Lucky takes her friends on another adventure, a visit to a rescue shelter. They bring coats and toys and spread some kindness and cheer to the rescue dogs who are waiting for a new home at the shelter.”

As the story continues, Lucky and her doggie friends are then inspired to help their new pals at the rescue shelter find homes, so they spread the word about the special dogs who need to be adopted.

The book introduces children to rescue dogs and the importance of finding their forever homes.

“Through it all, Lucky and her friends realize that making new friends and giving back is the

most wonderful adventure they can share,” the synopsis concludes.

The first book in the Lucky’s Adventures series, “Lucky’s Adventure in Saratoga,” was inspired by the true story of Macy’s rescue dog Lucky, who was lost in Saratoga for four days. Lucky was safely found thanks to the support of the community.

“So many kids love Lucky’s story in her first book,” Macy said on why she continued into a series. “I thought it would be fun for kids to learn more about Lucky and her friends while they continue to spread the messages of friendship, teamwork, community, kindness and gratitude.”

On what motivated her to write “Lucky’s Adventure in Winter Wonderland,” Macy said, “Lucky was a rescue and I wanted to help bring a greater awareness to rescues and the importance of finding their forever homes.”

Before the book’s release, a contest was held for a rescue dog to be featured in the book. Five were chosen, and entry fees were donated to the rescue group from which the winning dog was adopted.

A “Lucky’s Adventure in Winter Wonderland” book launch party will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Bailey’s Saratoga, located at 37 Phila St. in Saratoga Springs. The event will be familyand dog-friendly, with kids activities, giveaways and more. Macy and Lucky will be signing books and a portion of proceeds will be donated to the local H.O.P.E. Animal Rescue.

“Lucky’s Adventure in Winter Wonderland” is currently available for purchase online and at numerous area stores.

Looking ahead, Macy’s expects to release a third book in the Lucky’s Adventures series in 2020.
