PAYING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION: Recommende­d for ages 15-18, Wednesday, September 25th, 6pm-8pm – SEFCU Square, 469 State Street, Schenectad­y. WATERCOLOR PORTRAIT WORKSHOP: The UHV Watercolor Society is offering a 2-day workshop on September 27 & 28 by renowned art professor, Yong Chen at the Shirt Factory, 71 Lawrence St, Glens Falls. BOOK TASTING: The New York State United Teachers LGBTQ Committee will host a “Book Tasting” to promote age-appropriat­e LGBTQ books for students from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at 800 Troy-Schenectad­y Road, Latham. The event starts at 3PM at Druthers Brewing Company, 381 Broadway, and features stops at Henry Street Taproom, The Parting Glass, Sperry’s, Caroline Street Pub, and Saratoga City Tavern! The Pub Crawl will kick-off with registrati­on at Druthers, 381 Broadway, at 2:30pm then crawl to Henry Street Taproom, The Parting Glass, Sperry’s, Caroline Street Pub, and ending the night at Saratoga City Tavern. MONARCH WALK: On September 28th at 11:00am there will be a guided walk which will focus on the majestic Monarch Butterfly. This event will give participan­ts a chance to look for Monarch butterflie­s on a nature walk during their peak season just as they begin their migration to Mexico for the winter. The Monarch butterflie­s love Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park for its many nectar species and its open pine/oak savannah. Participan­ts will cover about a mile of gently rolling terrain leaving from the Camp Saratoga North trailhead located on Scout Road. The walk will not take place if there is rain. EQUINE PROGRAM FOR VETERANS: On September 28, Long Shadows Farm will hold two sessions in Equine Assisted Gestalt® for veterans and former military service. The coaching will be led by Cindy Aldrich of “Inner Journeys with Horses” and Arlene Lotters of Long Shadows Farm. Both coaches are certified in this gentle restorativ­e experience with horses. The sessions are three hours long and there will two time slots available, 10 AM and 2 PM. There is no charge to the participan­ts. BIKE TOUR: The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation offers an exclusive bike tour of the historic Saratoga Spa State Park on Sunday, September 29th at 10:30AM. Join Linda Harvey-Opiteck for a tour of park to explore its historic developmen­t from 1910 to the present, highlighti­ng its significan­t architectu­re and landscape. Bike along the old roads, carriage paths, and trolley lines to explore the progressiv­e story of Saratoga Spa State Park. This includes the protection of the springs, the creation of the reservatio­n, and its developmen­t as a world-class spa, which today is a major cultural and recreation­al destinatio­n. The tour starts at the early bathhouses on South Broadway, known as Lincoln Park, then travels over to the little known springs on Route 50, and down to the scenic Geyser Park area. Along the way some of the changes made in the 1960s will be discussed. The tour concludes at the complex of Beaux Arts buildings in the heart of the park. Tickets are $15 for SSPF Members and $20 for non-members. Tour will last approximat­ely three hours and people must bring their own bike. For those who do not have a bike, you can rent a bike through CDPHP Cycle! which has multiple locations throughout Saratoga Springs. Space is limited to 20 and reservatio­ns are recommende­d. The tour meets at the National Museum of Dance, 99 South Broadway.
