ALBANY, NY » The University at Albany football team will be looking to go to 2-0 in CAA play when it faces Richmond on the road Saturday, Oct. 5. Kickoff at Robins Stadium is at 2 p.m.

The Great Danes beat William and Mary last week 39-3. UAlbany exploded with 27 points in the second half to propel the Great Danes to the win. Quarterback Jeff Undercuffler threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns and Karl Mofor ran for 95 yards on 24 carries and also racked up 53 receiving yards. Kicker Dylan Burns kicked four field goals to set a new program single-game record.

UAlbany is now 3-2 this season. All the Great Danes home games have been wins, all the road games have been losses. William and Mary last week was Albany’s first conference game of the season.

Richmond enters their second conference game of the season 1-3 on the season and 0-1 in CAA competition after last week’s 2316 loss to non-conference opponent Fordham. Richmond opened CAA play back on September 14 with Elon. The Spiders lost to Elon 42-30.

The Great Danes never have beaten the Spiders (0-6), but each of the past four meetings has been

decided by a touchdown or less — and two went multiple overtimes. Richmond won last year’s meeting, 2724, after getting a 25-yard field goal in the final seconds at Casey Stadium. In 2017, UAlbany fell at Richmond, 41-38, in doubleovertime; at the time, the Spiders were ranked No. 14 nationally.

UAlbany enters Saturday’s game having scored 113 points over its past three outings. That’s the program’s best three-game point production since the 2012 season. UAlbany averages 35.2 points per game, which ranks third best in the CAA. Undercuffler continues to find success as he now ranks second in the nation and first in the CAA with 15 touchdown passes. Mofor is offering his assistance as one of only two backs in the CAA averaging more than 100 yards per game.

UAlbany has four players with at least 10 catches this season: Juwan Green (34), Jerah Reeves (31), Karl Mofor (15) and Donovan McDonald (10).

Undercuffler is getting plenty of time to find those receivers thanks to his offensive line. Undercffler has been sacked just five times this season thanks to the protection from the line.

Defensively, safety Josh Wynn leads the CAA with three interceptions. UAlbany’s defense has forced 14 turnovers (eight fumble recoveries, six interceptions) and scored twice over the first five games. In the opener at Central Michigan, Eli Mencer had a strip sack, fumble return for touchdown, and against Bryant, Jarren Williams hauled in a deflected pass and ran 63 yards for a Pick 6. UAlbany already has forced 13 fumbles.

UAlbany is finding its best performances late in games as the are outscoring opponents 55-24 in the fourth quarter.

For Richmond, redshirt sophomore quarterback Beau English threw for 298 yards in defeat to Fordham. The Spiders have dropped their past three games since opening the season with a win over Jacksonville.

The ground game for Richmond is being led by Joe Mancuso who has totaled 205 total yards and scored two touchdowns this season. On defense, Tyler Dressler leads with 33 total tackles.

Following this weekend, UAlbany hits the road again to take on Towson on Oct. 12 for another conference matchup. Kick off is set of 4 p.m.
