St. Rose women’s soccer captures NE-10 title

ALBANY, N.Y. >> The top-seed College of Saint Rose scored all three of its goals in the second half including the game-winner with 10 seconds remaining to capture the Northeast-10 Conference Championsh­ip behind today’s 3-2 comefrom-behind victory against visiting Southern Connecticu­t State. In the process, the Golden Knights (17-2-1) tied a league record with their eighth conference postseason title.

Saint Rose came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit by striking twice in the opening 16 minutes of the second half. Predanic buried a penalty kick that tied it and freshman forward Olivia Boucher turned her defender and drove home a Burchhardt feed from the right flank to make it 2-1. Those were first two goals given up this postseason by the Owls (10-7-4).

The Golden Knights will be making their second straight and 15th overall NCAA Tournament appearance…They have won at least 15 matches in 12 of the past 17 years and are ranked #11 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches National Poll.

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose shot 54.7 percent from the floor (35-for-64) and held off a late charge by Caldwell to chalk up a 90-88 victory tonight at the Eighth Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament on the Dominican College campus.

Junior guard Adam Anderson (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs H.S.) tossed in 27 points, two shy of his career-high, and handed out five assist without committing a turnover to propel the Golden Knights (2-1). Senior guard Michael Wearne tossed in 13, while freshman guard Manasseh Small and freshman forward Josh McGettigan finished with 12 and 11 points respective­ly.

UAlbany falls to Manhattan, 57-51

Manhattan — Hitting the road for the first time this season, the University at Albany men’s basketball paid a visit to Manhattan College Saturday night, their second-straight MAAC opponent. After opening up an eight-point lead at halftime, Manhattan closed the gap and pulled away late to win 57-51, handing UAlbany its second loss of the season. 52RPI falls to Westfield State, 78

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State’s Vawn Lord scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures in scoring, as the Owls topped Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) 78-52 in the consolatio­n final of the Rick Martin – Hampton Inn Tournament at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield bolted to a 45-21 halftime lead and never looked back.

Jauch Green Jr. added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Joseph Meade and Marcus Collins each

added 11 for the Owls. Westfield shot 49 percent from the floor and 17-21 at the foul line.

Mason Memmelaar was the lone engineer in double figures with 18 points and added five rebounds. Westfield held RPI (0-2) to just 35 percent shooting from the floor.

Engineer starter senior guard Mitchel Wayland (Saratoga/Stillwater H.S.) came up with two steals and a rebound in his 23 minutes of work Saturday. Women’s Basketball Amsterdam grad Nina Fedullo drives St. Rose to win

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - Junior forward Nina Fedullo (Amsterdam/Amsterdam H.S.) recorded career-bests of 16 points and 18 rebounds to help The College of Saint Rose defeat Felician 60-38 this afternoon at the Regina Rivera Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dominican. Fedullo, who went seven-of-nine from the field, added three assists and a block in the non-conference victory.

“It’s always nice to get a win on the road. Nina Fedullo was tremendous today. Her 18 rebounds were a key factor in our win, said Saint Rose Head Coach Karen Haag.

RPI beats Eagles, 87-60 MORRISTOWN, N.J. Sam Krumbhaar scored 17 points with eight rebounds and fellow senior Celia Tomlinson scored 16 points with 14 rebounds to lead the Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) to an 87-60 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday.

RPI scored 23 points in each of the first two quarters to build a 46-29 lead at halftime. Tomlinson had a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in the first half, while Krumbhaar added a dozen points with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. The Engineers made 44.7% of its shots (17 of 38) and held the Eagles to 35.1% (13 of 37).

Freshman guard Ashlyn O’Neil (Amsterdam/ Scotia-Glenville H.S.) finished with four points in her six minutes of work in the win, junior guard Taylor Travis (Glenmont/Bethlehem Central H.S.) had an assist in her five minutes on the floor and freshman forward Emily Vallee (Greenwich/Schuylervi­lle H.S.) dropped in four points on 2-of-2 shooting and grabbed two rebounds in her five minutes of playing time.

Marymount tops Sage, 69-46

Arlington, VA — The Sage Colleges’ women’s basketball team faced the host Saints of Marymount University on the championsh­ip game of the Marymount Pablo Coto Tournament. Sage led 24-23 at the half, but Marymount had a dominating third quarter and triumphed, 69-46. Marymount is now 3-0, while Sage drops to 2-1.

Senior forward Megan Flynn (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls Central H.S.) had six points with seven rebounds, and block with a steal. Senior guard Gessica Patregnani (Troy/Lansingbur­gh H.S.) had two three pointers with six points and a pair of assists for Sage.

Sophomore guard Meghan Murray (Watervliet/Watervliet H.S.) scored a point in her four minutes of play for the Gators, sophomore guard Sammy Pasinella (Troy/Mechanicvi­lle H.S.) started for Sage, held scoreless in her 29 minutes of play and freshman guard Renna Poulin (Troy/Tamarac H.S.) added three points in her 14 minutes of play.

HVCC takes Bryant and Stratton, 70-41

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Endicott football team scored 25 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat Nichols College, 35-7, on Saturday evening in conference action at Vendetti Field.

Endicott’s 25-point fourth quarter featured a 33-yard field goal from Nick DiCairano (Trumbull, Conn.) at 12:41 and touchdowns via Anthony Bracamonte (Saco, Maine), Will Genaway (Hinsdale, Mass.), and Greg Ruff (Saco, Maine) to lock up the victory.Senior defensive back Jesse Simoni (East Greenbush/Columbia H.S.) had a solo tackle and two assists in the Endicott win.

UAlbany earns pivotal win over New Hampshire

The University at Albany football team knocked off New Hampshire, 2417, on Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 16, to maintain at least a share of second place in the CAA. The Great Danes’ earned their seventh win of the season and fifth in conference play with one regular-season game remaining.

With the win, the Tigers improve to 7-2-0 overall (5-2-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 0-12-1 (0-6-0 ECAC Hockey).

TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore Paul Silva scored in the fifth round of a penalty shootout to send No. 12/14 Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) past Middlebury College in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Tournament, on Sunday afternoon at East Campus Stadium. Officially a 0-0 draw, the Engineers are 15-2-4 overall and advance to the Sweet 16, while the Panthers conclude their season at 9-3-8.

The Engineers finished with a 16-9 advantage in shots, but Middlebury had more on target, 5-4. RPI won the corner battle, 10-3.

Brezak (10-0-4) made five saves to register his sixth shutout, while Grady (9-37) had four saves to collect his ninth clean sheet of the season.

RPI advances to its first ever Sweet 16, where it will face Messiah College for the first time, on Saturday. Location and game time has yet to be determined.

RPI advances in NCAA tournament

TROY, N.Y. – Senior Dylan Confair recorded a pair of assists and four other tallied as the No. 12/14 Rensselaer Polytechni­c Institute (RPI) men’s soccer team defeated Eastern Nazarene College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. With the win, the Engineers improve to 15-2-3 and advance to tomorrow’s Second Round game against Middlebury College (3pm). The Lions conclude their season at 16-4-0.

With the shutout victory, the Engineers set a school record for victories and goals (43) in season, surpassing the 1996 and 2009 (41 goals) teams that each recorded 14. RPI advances past the opening round for the fifth time in school history, doing so most recently in 2015, when it defeated Stevens, 2-1, in overtime.

Junior forward Dante Boyd (Troy/Troy H.S.) came off the bench for the Engineers along with freshman midfielder Ben Kogan (Clifton Park/Shenendeho­wa H.S.) who produced two shots in his time on the pitch, including one on frame.

St. Rose men’s season ends 2-1 to Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose had its historic season come to a close with this afternoon’s 2-1 defeat at Assumption in the Northeast-10 Conference Championsh­ip Final. Both sides entered the contests seeking their first NE10 Championsh­ip.

Assumption thus earned an automatic berth to upcoming NCAA Tournament and establishe­d itself as only the second, fifth-seed to win the conference title. The other is New Hampshire College (Now Southern New Hampshire), which beat second-seed Saint Anselm 1-0 in 2000.

“It’s always disappoint­ing when you are so close to winning a title, but I was so proud of the effort the boys put forth today. We were a little short-handed without a couple of keys starters, but that shouldn’t take away from a well-earned win by Assumption. This season has been unforgetta­ble. So many great memories by such a special group of guys. I’m going to miss being out on the field with this team, and they all should be so proud of how far they have elevated our program,” said head coach John Ciano.

The loss also ended the season for freshman goalkeeper Sebastian Maynard (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls H.S.), sophomore forward Kevin Vargas (Troy/Troy H.S.) and sophomore midfielder/back David Hamlin (Troy/LaSalle Institute.

Oneonta falls to Messiah in 2nd round of NCAAs

The SUNY Oneonta men’s soccer season came to a close Sunday with a 4-1 loss to Messiah in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The SUNYAC regular season and tournament champion Red Dragons finished the season with a record of 18-3. The 18 wins for Oneonta tied for the third most all-time in program history matching the 2011 squad.

Freshman midfielder Ethan Brunell (Clifton Park/Shenendeho­wa H.S.) started for the Dragons.

After holding an 8-7 advantage in shots through the first half, Oneonta was outshot 14-5 in the second half. The Falcons generated seven corner kicks while Oneonta had only one for the match.
