Martin, Daley conclude City Public Safety service
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> Public Safety Commissioner Peter Martin will be leaving office on Jan. 1, 2020 after two years as Commissioner and four years as County Supervisor.
Prior to that, he served as Saratoga County Clerk. Martin leaves office with a significant litany of accomplishments, including the furthering of Complete Streets in the City of Saratoga Springs. Those accomplishments include:
• Significant improvement to the City’s vacant structures program by achieving nearly full registration of vacant structures in Saratoga Springs
• Emphasized fire suppression by merging the City’s Code Enforcement Department into the Saratoga Springs Fire Department and creating a new Battalion Chief position;
• The improvement of numerous pedestrian crossings, especially the intersections of Regent Street with Union Avenue and Myrtle Street with Church Street;
• The installation of bicycle lanes along Lake Avenue;
• The appointment of Fire Chief Joseph Dolan and Chief of Police Shane Crooks;
• Protecting historic structures in Saratoga Springs by revamping the City’s vacant structure ordinance;
• Improving the quality of life in the Downtown Core by overhauling the City’s noise ordinance and prioritizing enforcement;
• Creation of a Citizen’s Advisory Board
Martin expresses his thanks to the many people he has worked with in the Department of Public Safety over the past two years. Chief among these are City police officers, firefighters, code enforcement officers and other Public Safety professionals who keep the City safe every day.
Martin would particularly like to thank Chief Shane Crooks, Chief Greg Veitch, Assistant Chief John Catone, Chief Joseph Dolan, Chief Bob Williams, Assistant Chief Pete Shaw, Batal
lion Chief Aaron Dyer, Code Administrator Jack Donnelly, Traffic Maintenance Administrators Andy Krupski and Mark Benaquista, DPS Office Administrator Danielle Willard, Lisa Watkins, Karen Perrino, Raelynn Smith and Deputy Commissioner John Daley.
Martin would also like to thank Mayor Kelly, Commissioner Madigan, Commissioner Scirocco, Commissioner Franck, Supervisor Veitch, and Supervisor Gaston for their collegiality and professionalism.
He would like to thank his predecessors former Commissioner Chris Mathiesien and Deputy Commissioner Eileen Finneran for their support and guidance upon taking office.
Finally, Martin would like to thank and recognize the contributions of the entire City Hall family, especially Deputy Mayor Shields, Deputy Finance Commissioners Bachner and Sharp, Deputy Public Works Commissioner O’Neill, Deputy Accounts Commissioner Masterson, DPW Businesss Manager Mike Veitch, City Attorney Vince DeLeonardis, Assistant City Attorney Tony Izzo, Trish Bush, and Director of Risk and Safety Marilyn Rivers.
He would like to extend his best wishes to Commissioner-elect Robin Dalton as she begins her first term of office.
Deputy Commissioner John Daley said, “I thank Commissioner Martin for allowing me to serve the people of Saratoga Springs these past two years. I am especially grateful to him for his constant support and friendship. I echo the Commissioner’s sentiments, and extend my thanks to everyone in the Department of Public Safety and City Hall.
“I would especially like to recognize the members of our Police and Fire Departments, who are all of our heroes. I thank my colleagues in the Department of Public Safety, who have been a constant source of knowledge and professionalism.
“As I said two years ago, I love this City and its people. It has truly been an honor. I consider it a privilege to call our City my home and to call all of you my neighbors.”
Daley looks forward to returning to state government and remaining active in the community in Saratoga Springs.
