Saratoga Gymnasts Placing in the Top 10 at Sectionals

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY » On Wednesday, February 12th at Shaker High School, the Saratoga Gymnastics team won their 19th consecutiv­e Section 2 gymnastics title with a score of 173.65 beating Bethlehem (167.50), Guilderlan­d (160.45) and Shaker (156.975).

Saratoga was lead by a record breaking performanc­e from Sophia Damiano who broke two meet records (on the vault and the floor exercise) on her way to winning the allaround title with a score of 37.35.

Damiano was not alone on the podium as she was joined by teammates Ava Dallas (2nd all-around; 36.95) and Carly Ruschak (3rd all-around; 34.60). It was the second year in a row that Saratoga gymnasts swept the top three allaround spots at Sectionals.

The three Saratoga gymnasts qualified to compete at the New York State High School Gymnastics Championsh­ips on February 29th at Cold Spring Harbor High School (Long Island, New York). Also on the state team will be Saratoga gymnast Miranda Lynch who will compete on the bars at the state meet having placed 5th at

All-Around – Damiano (1st; 37.35), Dallas (2nd; 36.95), Ruschak (3rd; 34.60)

Vault – Damiano (1st; 9.45 – meet record), Dallas (2nd; 9.20), Sudigala (7th; 8.45), Wishart (9th; 8.375)

Uneven Bars – Dallas (1st; 9.225), Damiano (2nd; 9.05), Ruschak (4th; 8.00), Lynch (5th; 7.85)

Balance Beam – Damiano (1st; 9.425 – meet record), Ruschak (2nd; 9.20), Dallas (3rd; 9.125)

Floor Exercise – Damiano (1st; 9.425), Dallas (2nd; 9.40), Ruschak (3rd; 9.225)
