UAlbany adds Cobb to women’s staff

ALBANY, N.Y. » New University at Albany women’s soccer head coach Leigh Howard has announced that her assistant at Marist, Christina Cobb, will be joining her on the Great Dane sidelines.

“I am very excited for the opportunit­y here at UAlbany,” said Cobb. “The program has seen great success in the past five years and to be given the chance to get to work with these athletes and be a part of this program is a tremendous honor. I would also like to thank Leigh for considerin­g me for the position in the first place. I feel like we were super productive together in our two years at Marist and really excited about our future here at UAlbany.”

“I am really excited about being able to bring CC along with me to serve as a part of this staff,” said Howard. “She played an integral role in what we achieved as

a staff at Marist and there is no doubt in my mind that she will continue to do so here at UAlbany. Her knowledge for the game, passion for player developmen­t, and diligence in attacking the details of managing a collegiate program will greatly benefit UAlbany women’s soccer.”

Cobb, who goes by “CC”, spent two seasons with Howard at Marist College. With the Red Foxes, Cobb assisted Howard in leading her team to back-to-back 9-8-2 records culminatin­g in MAAC semifinal appearance­s.

She began her coaching career at Wagner College in 2015 as an assistant. She spent three years at Wagner, overseeing one NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, one NEC All-Rookie Goalkeeper, and one NEC AllConfere­nce

Second Team selection.

Cobb was a midfielder at the University of Tennessee from 2012-14, where she played for a team ranked in the top 20 in 2012 and the top 50 in 2013. She was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each season she attended, and won the Scholar-Athlete Award in 2014.

Before attending Tennessee, Cobb spent two seasons at Florida State University, where she won the ACC title in 2011 and made a run to the Final Four. Academical­ly, Cobb was named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll each season she attended.

A native of Boca Raton, Fla., Cobb graduated magna cum laude from Tennessee in 2014 with a degree in Psychology, after spending two years at Florida State studying Business Management. She earned her MBA from Wagner in 2016
