State of Emergency declared for Saratoga Springs

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Saratoga Springs Mayor Meg Kelly declared a State of Emergency for the city effective immediatel­y that will remain in effect until rescinded by a subsequent order.

The State of Emergency has been declared due to the threat that COVID-19 poses to the health and welfare of the City of Saratoga Springs residents, visitors, and employees.

A joint statement obtained from Kelly and Commission­er of Public Safety Robin Dalton read as follows:

“The City is taking the most judicious path to protect the health and welfare of the City’s most valuable resource: its residents, visitors, and employees. Please heed all COVID-19 precaution­s provided, and continue to WASH YOUR HANDS!”

The City is operating in accordance with its City Emergency Management Plan, created in collaborat­ion with the Risk and Safety Department, Police and Fire Department­s, all other City department­s, insurance and other experts in the field, and voted on by City Council.

At this time, the Mayor and the Commission­er of Public Safety are the Points of Informatio­n to the public.

This declaratio­n means that City Hall offices will be closed to the general public for at least the next five business days, Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20.

City Council Meetings will be held as usual, will be live streamed and taped, but are closed to the

public. The public is free to submit comments by email relative to any agenda item.

All Land Use Board meetings and workshops are canceled for the two weeks, from March 16, through March 27. The department­s of Public Works, Police and Fire will continue operating, uninterrup­ted.
