SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » As one of the primary organizations that addresses the needs of the City’s homeless residents, the Salvation Army of Saratoga Springs reports that that work continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lt. Bree Barker would like the public to know that “We’re going to serve as many as we can. Some things have changed, in that in compliance with the Saratoga County Department of Public Health and the CDC guidelines, we are serving to-go breakfasts and lunches, having suspended the sit-down meals they normally serve during the more social drop in hours during which people tend to gather.

“People can still sign up for a time slot to shower and to do laundry; those services are still available.”

Barker said that the Saratoga Salvation Army is still operating with a full staff, currently working under emergency disaster services protocol.

Families who relied on the breakfast and lunch boxes for their children that may or may not have transportation can sign up online using a Google form to register for those same food boxes to be delivered directly to their doorsteps, also minimizing the traffic at the facility located at 27 Woodlawn Ave. in downtown Saratoga Springs.

“We are working with the Galway, Corinth, Hadley, Ballston Spa and Saratoga Springs School Districts to provide children who received the free or reduced cost food boxes those same boxes at no cost at this time. We’re trying to keep the same items that children can prepare easily themselves, since the conditions for par

ents to work are changing.

“Some work from home, some have found their positions cut, some must leave the home to work, so anyone in Saratoga County who needs this food can sign up for a delivery.

“We assemble those boxes ourselves, so each one slightly varies. The boxes include items such as milk, bread, cereal, canned meats, ravioli, and pasta.”

Since the form went live on their Facebook site on Tuesday, the Salvation

Army has filled and delivered 30 orders in 24 hours. Visit that link here: https://forms. gle/6TM7q1hgD7rGqXn18.

Barker states that at this time, donations of potatoes, soup, and other non-perishable items are greatly appreciated, and anyone able to contribute can still do so online at https://empire.salvationarmy.org/EmpireNY/Saratoga.

The items most desired for the food boxes include cereal, shelf stable milk, Stewart’s milk cards, pasta, sauce, rice, canned vegetables and fruit, canned tuna and chicken, peanut butter and jelly, bread, and granola bars.
