Saratoga National Historic Park visitor center closing

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Visitor Center at Saratoga National Historical Park will be closed March 23 through April 10, in order to install new windows. The building will be closed Monday through Friday and open on weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Installed in 1961 when the Visitor Center was built, the windows are being replaced with new energy saving ones.

“These new windows will save the park approximately $1,000 per year in heating and cooling costs.” Facilitation Manager Jason Huart said.

These new windows are constructed to maintain the historic look of the building. Both the glass and metal framing are being replaced throughout the building. Single story windows and frames are manufactured offsite, transported to the park, and installed. New windows are being installed in parts of the Visitor Center that are not accessible to the visitor.

The two-story wall in the lobby area is scheduled for completion the first two weeks of April, the last section of the building to be replaced. While construction is underway in the lobby, the park will not be able to allow visitor access to the building.

Once completed, visitors will again be able to clearly overlook the Breyman Fortified Camp area where the pivotal battle on Oct. 7, 1777 occurred, and appreciate the full magnitude of this historic event.

The tour road is open to vehicles beginning April 1 and the grounds are open sunrise to sunset year round.
