SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » A recent graduate of Saratoga Springs High School announced his bid for a seat on the school district’s Board of Education.

Matthew Taylor, class of 2018, said his goal is to unite the community. He pledged to run from his perspective as “someone who knows first-hand the struggles that students face.”

Taylor identified income disparity, class size and students’ travel time as some issues he wants to address.

“Students in our school district both need and deserve someone who fully knows what it is like to be a student in our system,” Taylor said. “I know that recently tensions have been high in the political scene, both locally and nationally, and there is a sense of division among our neighbors. Regardless of income and regardless of where you are from, education is the greatest equalizer. But far too many barriers face children and their families, when it comes to getting the best education.”

A Greenfield native, Taylor describes his experience as “a notso-wealthy kid in a fairly wealthy school district,” saying the district “must work to destroy any barriers that would get in the way of a child reaching their full potential.”

“Providing the best opportunity and the brightest future for the children in our area is something we all can agree on. That is why I am proud to be running a non-partisan race. I hope to bring our community even closer together because we are one school district, we are one community and we are one Saratoga.”
