$500K CDBG funding in Saratoga Springs available
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Nearly $500,000 is available through Community Development Block Grant funding opportunities, which have been expanded due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Between the reopening of applications for the 2020 CDBG Program Year and new CARES Act funds allocated, a total of $497,120 is available within the city of Saratoga Springs, according to a press release from Mayor Meg Kelly’s office.
The CDBG program, funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), was created by the passage of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. The goal of the CDBG program is to develop viable urban communities through housing, economic development, elimination of slums and blight, expansion of community services and neighborhood revitalization.
As a participant in the entitlement branch of the CDBG program, the Saratoga Springs re
ceives an annual allocation of federal funds based on a formula that takes into consideration total population, population change, age, and condition of housing stock, and poverty. The CDBG program is administered locally by the Saratoga Springs Office of Community Development.
In light of the emerging needs of the low-moderate income community resulting from the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Community Development Department is reopening applications for the 2020 CDBG Program Year. Available funding for this program remains unchanged at $315,491.
In addition, the city has been allocated additional funding by HUD through the CARES Act to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the pandemic. This CDBGCV funding totals $181,629 and must be used for COVID-19 related activities benefiting the low-moderate income population.
Applications for these funding sources will be accepted until noon on May 22 via the city website www. saratoga-springs.org, where application materials can be found. Applicants should thoroughly review the guidebook provided prior to completing the application.
