EXPERTS NEXT DOOR SERIES: A live, interactive critique of specific beers will be offered to the public over Zoom, to raise funds for the Saratoga County History Center, located at Brookside in Ballston Spa. Participants are asked to buy samples of each beverage and Zoom in from the comfort of their homes. The event will be held on Father’s Day, June 21 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are at the Brookside Museum website or Saratoga County Historical Society’s Facebook page. Donations with a minimum $5 fee are requested to support the activities of the history center. A link to the Zoom event will be emailed out to those who have purchased tickets. It is the first in a new, “Experts Next Door” series of workshops and discussions offered by the center. Billed as a virtual beer tasting, it will be led by Michael Shaffer, operator of The Real McCoy Beer Co.’s tap room at the 1804 Doubleday House in Ballston Spa. He has selected four beers for the event, which can be purchased at area supermarkets. The second in “Experts Next Door” will be Kathleen Royka of the Thymely Herb group, who will provide a workshop on gardening with herbs at 7 pm on July 9. Skidmore professor, Dr. Tillman Nechtman will follow with a discussion on July 23 at 7 pm based on his research on Britain’s use of the ocean as a world power. Juan Hinojosa, current exhibiting Art Installation Series artist, will be leading an Advanced Collage Night! Hinojosa will lead participants in making their own collages that combine traditional paper materials with 3D items found around the home, like buttons, costume jewelry, iron-on patches, or even small plastic dinosaurs and legos! Hinojosa will also discuss adhesives for different materials, how to use a rigid support, and how to display a more 3D work. Dave Sylvester hosts The Short Story Café, an informal discussion of the short story form that examines how writers handle structural elements such as plot, character and theme in their writing. EXPERTS NEXT DOOR SERIES: A new “Experts Next Door” series of workshops and discussions is being offered by the Saratoga County History Center, located at Brookside in Ballston Spa. The second event of the series will be Kathleen Royka of the Thymely Herb group, who will provide a workshop on gardening with herbs at 7 pm on July 9. Skidmore professor, Dr. Tillman Nechtman will follow with a discussion on July 23 at 7 pm based on his research on Britain’s use of the ocean as a world power. New York’s role in early 19 th century religious revivals will be explored by Dr. Jennifer Dorsey of Siena College on August 27, also at 7 pm. This event will be offered to the public over Zoom, to raise funds for the Saratoga County History Center. Tickets for the event are at the Brookside Museum website or Saratoga County Historical Society’s Facebook page.
