Thursday, July 9 EXPERTS NEXT DOOR SERIES:

A new “Experts Next Door” series of workshops and discussions is being offered by the Saratoga County History Center, located at Brookside in Ballston Spa. The second event of the series will be Kathleen Royka of the Thymely Herb group, who will provide a workshop on gardening with herbs at 7 pm on July 9. Skidmore professor, Dr. Tillman Nechtman will follow with a discussion on July 23 at 7 pm based on his research on Britain’s use of the ocean as a world power. New York’s role in early 19 th century religious revivals will be explored by Dr. Jennifer Dorsey of Siena College on August 27, also at 7 pm. This event will be offered to the public over Zoom, to raise funds for the Saratoga County History Center. Tickets for the event are at the Brookside Museum website or Saratoga County Historical Society’s Facebook page. Donations with a minimum $5 fee are requested to support the activities of the history center. A link to the Zoom event will be emailed out to those who have purchased tickets. GREEK FESTIVAL: CANCELED - The 11th Adirondack Greek Festival will be hosted by St. George Church, 55 Main St., South Glens Falls. BIKE TOUR: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is pleased to offer its popular bike tour of the historic Saratoga Spa State Park on three occasions this summer. Join Linda Harvey-Opiteck on Saturday, July 11th, Saturday, August 22nd, or Sunday, September 27th for a tour of the park to explore its historic development from 1910 to the present, highlighting its significant architecture and landscape while remaining socially distant. Bike through the beautiful outdoors along the old roads, carriage paths, and trolley lines to explore the progressive story of Saratoga Spa State Park. This includes the protection of the springs, the creation of the reservation, and its development as a world-class spa, which today is a major cultural and recreational destination. The tour starts at the early bathhouses on South Broadway, known as Lincoln Park, then travels over to the little known springs on Route 50, and down to the scenic Geyser Park area. Along the way some of the changes made in the 1960s will be discussed. The tour concludes at the complex of Beaux Arts buildings in the heart of the park. Tickets are $20 for SSPF Members and $25 for non-members. Tour will last approximately three hours and people must bring their own bike. For those who do not have a bike, you can rent a bike through CDPHP Cycle! which has multiple locations throughout Saratoga Springs. Space is limited to 20 and tickets must be purchased in advance. The tour meets outside of the National Museum of Dance, 99 South Broadway. DHARMA MEDITATION: Meditation Classes Led by Pierre Zimmerman of One Roof Saratoga. July 12-August 30, Sundays at 9 am on the SPAC grounds in the Saratoga Spa State Park. Dharma Meditation includes inspirational topics that support emotional, cognitive, and ethical wishes for wellbeing. This is a sitting meditation for 25 minutes with a silent break allowing people to stretch, followed by a second sitting, introduced by a brief talk. A discussion on the topic and some insights and reflections about the nature and commonality of our basic humanity is shared by attendees. This meditation is open to beginners and/or those who have been meditating for awhile. There is no cost to attend, but a $10 donation per class is suggested. SUNDAY STROLL: Sunday, July 12- Broadway In 1874. The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to present their summer series of historic walking tours while remaining safe and socially distanced. Summer Sunday Strolls will be offered every Sunday through Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tour topics this season highlight prominent women of Greenridge Cemetery, the celebrated area surrounding the Saratoga Race Course, and the historic Spa State Park, among many others. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Due to current restrictions in New York State, Summer Strolls will be limited to 20 guests, which currently is less than the maximum of 25 that is currently allowed, and tickets must be purchased in advance until otherwise noted. Everyone will be required to wear a mask and social distancing will be encouraged when possible. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. TAI CHI: Tai Chi Classes at SPAC Instructed by Mark Tolstrup of the Tai Chi Center - Beginner Introduction To Tai Chi Class. FUNDRAISER: Like so many non-profits, Sustainable Saratoga has cancelled traditional in-person fundraising activities due to Covid-19. To help during these unusual times, Sustainable Saratoga invites you to a Virtual Wine Tasting. The event will be informative, fun and raise much-needed funds to continue the programs you support. This event will feature the award-winning wines of the Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery, located in New York’s Finger Lakes wine region. The winery has generously donated a portion of the wines for this event, and all proceeds from the event go directly to helping fund the sustainability efforts of Sustainable Saratoga. HISTORICAL PRESENTATION:

The Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site in Fort Hunter and the Fulton County Historical Society are teaming up to present a virtual two program series. On July 15th at 6:30pm, Fulton County Historical Society Executive Director Samantha Hall-Saladino will present “Sacandaga Soiree: Tides and Tourism,” exploring the tourism boom on the Great Sacandaga Lake from the 1940s to the present. The Glen Conservancy will host a fiddle workshop starting the evening of July 17 and culminating the afternoon of July 19. Grammy nominee Andrea Hoag is the instructor. Students will compare and contrast the fiddle styles of the Northern US, Southern US, Ireland and Sweden. The workshop will be taught by ear with sheet music distributed at the conclusion. It is appropriate for all skill levels; however must be able to play tunes by ear. It will end with a concert on 7⁄19 at 2 PM.
