NE-10 suspends conference competition for Fall 2020
ALBANY, N.Y. » The Council of Presidents of the Northeast-10 Conference, which The College of Saint Rose is a part of, voted unanimously this afternoon to suspend all NE10 sponsored competition and championships through December 31 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Saint Rose and the NE10 consider the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, staff and wider campus communities to be of paramount importance. Despite each institutions’ planning throughout the past few months and the conference’s collective efforts to forge a path forward, it has become clear that we are not able to conduct outside competition at this time in a manner that is consistent with the prioritization of our cam
pus’ collective well-being.
Saint Rose and the entire NE10 membership are striving to ensure a meaningful regular-season and conference championship experience for all of its fall studentathletes during the spring 2021 semester, as long as a return to competition can be safely executed. Initial plans for spring competition will be announced at a later date.
“Although our studentathletes will not have the opportunity to compete before December 31st, 2020, I am appreciative of the leadership amongst NE10 Presidents, Athletic Directors, and conference administrators and staff to put the health and safety of our student-athletes at the forefront of this decision. I am encouraged by the efforts taken by the NCAA and NE10 to provide flexibility that allows our 350-plus Golden Knights to return to competition in January. We are a strong and resilient group of student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff, and I’m confident the best is yet to come for Saint Rose Athletics,” said Lori Anctil, Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics.
The NE10 will also endeavor to provide a regular-season schedule and/ or conference championship experience for its winter sport student-athletes during the spring 2021 semester, with the intention of aligning with appropriate NCAA selection criteria and dates, as long as a return to competition can be safely executed.
Saint Rose and the NE10 recognize the importance of athletics participation to its student-athletes. To best support a meaningful but safe student-athlete experience during the fall semester, coaches and staff will continue to develop ways in which to safely engage student-athletes in small-group activity through in-person training and instruction, strength and conditioning training, leadership education, and team bonding activities. Each activity will be structured according to institutional and NCAA policies, and governed by state public health regulations.
NE10 institutions are unanimously committed to honoring athletics aid agreements that have been issued to studentathletes for 2020-21 in accordance to the terms and conditions laid out in those agreements.
