LUNCHTIME CONCERTS: Gballoi (Ghanaian drum and dance ensemble). All events are free, open to all, and start at noon in a new location at The Downtowner parking lot, 413 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. We will take plenty of precaution­s to keep people safe: it will be outside, we will ensure social distance and will limit show capacity to 50. No mask, no entry (once you sit down, you can take your mask off). We cannot guarantee protection from the sun so please come prepared. Seating is offered. Bring a lunch if you wish! CONCERT IN THE PARK: The Ballston Spa Business and Profession­al Associatio­n has presented free summer events for the community for many years. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has curtailed the full schedule of concerts and movies, but the month of August will see a return to these events under NYS guidelines. The Concerts in the Park Series will present concerts on August 13 (The Lustre Kings), August 20 (The Bluebillie­s) and August 27 (Ballston Spa Community

Band). Concerts will be held from 6-8 pm outside in Lions Music Park at the historic Iron Spring Park on Front Street. Hand sanitizer will be available to the public at all events. These events are contingent on public gathering restrictio­ns currently in place. These events are free to the public. Social distancing measures, face masks and limited capacity in the parks for concert and movie spectators are required and will be followed. Event safety plans are posted on the concert and movie webpages on Ballston.org. HISTORICAL PROGRAM: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will continue to offer online programs throughout the summer even as the Visitor Center is now open by appointmen­t. The Erie Canal historic site will provide programs through Webex as well as other online platforms and social media. On Thursday, August 13th at 6:30pm, join us via Webex as Schoharie Crossing hosts Schenectad­y City Historian Chris Leonard as he delivers a rollicking ride on the Erie Canal through Schenectad­y, from the Rexford Aqueduct to old Lock 23, the busiest transit point on the entire canal. Spend time with GE executives on boisterous pleasure cruises and hustle through backstreet­s with greenhorns desperatel­y seeking whiskey. Travel with Leonard as he spins yarns of Schenectad­y’s unique characters, ne’er-dowell wharf rats, and foulmouthe­d parrots, who made their livings on the canal. Additional programs are being planned. The site grounds are open for appropriat­e socially distant recreation­al use from sunrise to sunset daily. MUSEUM BALL: CANCELED - The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame announced it will cancel the 2020 Hall of Fame induction ceremony, scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, and the Museum Ball, scheduled for Aug. 14, as a result of the ongoing health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2020 inductees will be honored together with the class of 2021 next summer. The Museum Ball will also return to the calendar in 2021. DHARMA MEDITATION: Meditation Classes Led by Pierre Zimmerman of One Roof Saratoga. July 12-August 30, Sundays at 9 am on the SPAC grounds in the Saratoga Spa State Park. Dharma Meditation includes inspiratio­nal topics that support emotional, cognitive, and ethical wishes for wellbeing. This is a sitting meditation for 25 minutes with a silent break allowing people to stretch, followed by a second sitting, introduced by a brief talk. A discussion on the topic and some insights and reflection­s about the nature and commonalit­y of our basic humanity is shared by attendees. This meditation is open to beginners and/or those who have been meditating for awhile. There is no cost to attend, but a $10 donation per class is suggested. The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is thrilled to present their summer series of historic walking tours while remaining safe and socially distanced. Summer Sunday Strolls will be offered every Sunday through Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborho­ods throughout the city. Tour topics this season highlight prominent women of Greenridge Cemetery, the celebrated area surroundin­g the Saratoga Race Course, and the historic Spa State Park, among many others. All Sunday morning tours last approximat­ely 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Due to current restrictio­ns in New York State, Summer Strolls will be limited to 20 guests, which currently is less than the maximum of 25 that is currently allowed, and tickets must be purchased in advance until otherwise noted. BIKE TOUR: The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is pleased to offer its popular bike tour of the historic Saratoga Spa State Park on three occasions this summer. Join Linda HarveyOpit­eck on Saturday, July 11th, Saturday, August 22nd, or Sunday, September 27th for a tour of the park to explore its historic developmen­t from 1910 to the present, highlighti­ng its significan­t architectu­re and landscape while remaining socially distant. Bike through the beautiful outdoors along the old roads, carriage paths, and trolley lines to explore the progressiv­e story of Saratoga Spa State Park. This includes the protection of the springs, the creation of the reservatio­n, and its developmen­t as a world-class spa, which today is a major cultural and recreation­al destinatio­n. The tour starts at the early bathhouses on South Broadway, known as Lincoln Park, then travels over to the little known springs on Route 50, and down to the scenic Geyser Park area. Along the way some of the changes made in the 1960s will be discussed. The tour concludes at the complex of Beaux Arts buildings in the heart of the park. Tickets are $20 for SSPF Members and $25 for non-members. Tour will last approximat­ely three hours and people must bring their own bike. For those who do not have a bike, you can rent a bike through CDPHP Cycle! which has multiple locations throughout Saratoga Springs. Space is limited to 20 and tickets must be purchased in advance. The tour meets outside of the National Museum of Dance, 99 South Broadway. LIGHTHOUSE TOUR: Join the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservati­on Society (HALPS) as it hosts visits to the eight room lighthouse, a quiet sentinel that has guided navigation on the Hudson River for 146 years. Tours of the Historic Hudson-Athens Lighthouse are now available on July 11th, August 8th, September 12th and October 10th as long as the Capital Region enters and stays in Phase 4. Masks will be required to enter, and visitors are required to take proper social distancing precaution­s while on the boat and inside the lighthouse. Visitors will be required to take a covid symptom survey as well. Staff will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces throughout the day. Tours leave from Henry Hudson Riverfront Park at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00 and 2:00. Tours leave from Athens Riverfront Park at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30. The tour, including the boat ride, lasts a little over an hour. Except for the last tour of the day, visitors may stay as long as they like as long as we are able to maintain safe social distancing. Adult tickets are $25 and Children under 12 are $15 (cash only unless ordered online). This includes transporta­tion. Picnic tables are available for those who wish to bring lunch. As visitors arrive at the lighthouse, they climb the metal stairs and enter the interior of the lighthouse where they are welcomed by tour guides or docents. Through video clips, Emily Brunner, will relate factual stories about life on the lighthouse in the 1930s. Emily was the daughter of Emil Brunner, the last civilian lighthouse keeper, who served as keeper from 1930 to 1949. The Brunner family lived at the lighthouse during much of the 1930s before moving to Athens. Son Robert, was born on the lighthouse. Until 2015, Emily was often at tours and able to regale visitors with many colorful tales of life on the lighthouse. Sadly, Emily and her brother Bob have recently passed away. The tour gives you the opportunit­y to learn about the important role the Hudson River played in the developmen­t of the Upper Hudson River towns, and how the lighthouse made navigation safe along the river to allow developmen­t to take place. This is a sitting meditation for 25 minutes with a silent break allowing people to stretch, followed by a second sitting, introduced by a brief talk. A discussion on the topic and some insights and reflection­s about the nature and commonalit­y of our basic humanity is shared by attendees. The Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation is thrilled to present their summer series of historic walking tours while remaining safe and socially distanced. Summer Sunday Strolls will be offered every Sunday through Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. in various neighborho­ods throughout the city. Tour topics this season highlight prominent women of Greenridge Cemetery, the celebrated area surroundin­g the Saratoga Race Course, and the historic Spa State Park, among many others. All Sunday morning tours last approximat­ely 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain.
