EASE OF MOVEMENT PRESENTATION: Shenendehowa Neighbors Connecting (SNC), a not-for-profit serving 55+ citizens who live in the Shenendehowa School District, invites you to attend “Ease of Movement” presented via Zoom on Tuesday Sept 8th at 1pm. You do not need to reside in the Shenendehowa School District area to attend. We sometimes think pain and arthritis are inevitable parts of aging, right? Wrong! In this presentation, taught by John Murphy a Physical Therapist, you will gain a better understanding of the root cause of arthritis in order to reverse the problem and move more easily. You will hear the steps you can take to stop the cause, so the disease process can begin to reverse itself.

LYME ACTION NETWORK PRESENTATION: The Lyme Action Network is taking its message to the online platform. To help people understand about Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, the Lyme Action Network will be offering video presentations, Zoom meetings, and other virtual events to help people understand the dangers of tick bites and what to do if they get bitten. The Lyme Action Network has already confirmed three presentations, with more in the pipeline. The second presentation, scheduled for September 10, 2020 at 7:00 pm will be a live Zoom meeting presented by Nitya Jessica Eisenheim, N.D. (Naturopathic Doctor). Dr. Eiseneheim will discuss naturopathic/holistic approaches to the care and treatment of patients suffering chronic illness, with a special emphasis on Lyme patients. Passionate about herbal medicine, cooking, healthy food, and community building, Dr. Eisenheim is an expert at creating individualized health plans for clients who suffer from chronic pain and digestive issues. As many of her family members have suffered from incorrect treatment of Lyme disease, she focuses on preventing Lyme disease from becoming a chronic illness as well as addressing the particular difficulties of chronic disease. SENIOR PICNIC: The Saratoga County Office for the Aging is proud to present an All American Salute to Seniors. This year’s Annual Senior Picnic will be on Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds! This will be a car-hop style event complete with hotdogs, hamburgers, apple pie and other summer hits. This event is for Saratoga County Residents 60 and over. Lunch is served at 12 noon and parking will be available on site. For your safety, this event will look a bit different than prior years. Vehicles will be parked at a safe distance. We encourage you to bring a lawn chair or blanket to place in front of your vehicle or you may stay in your vehicle (Drive-In Style). Unfortunately, there will be no seating at the picnic tables under the pavilion. Our staff and volunteers will serve you at your parking space. ONLINE RUMINANT COURSE: Small Ruminant Parasite Control Course ZOOM Meeting Online. Parasites are the most important limiting factor in small ruminant flocks. Join CAAHP team member Ashley Pierce to learn how to monitor, treat, and prevent parasites in your flock, herd, or flerd! This meeting will take place on September 10, 2020 at 6 pm. This online course will discuss the lifecycle and biology of parasites affecting small ruminants, how to use the 5-point check, FAMACHA, and fecal testing to monitor your flock health and provide best practice procedures for treating your animals with dewormers to avoid resistance. This course is part of a statewide grant from the New York Farm Viability Institute, which provides the methods and materials to local County Extension offices to teach and host parasite mitigation strategies. Once you have taken the course and learned the basic techniques, you may gain access to the lab materials on-site at the Extension office and work with your local educators to complete your samples. We are hoping to have the lab open for at least one day each month during the growing season for producers to run their samples, catch up with their local educators and growers and access the latest strategies for protecting your animals. As weather in the Northeast becomes warmer and wetter due to climate change, we are likely to see further issues with parasites and parasite resistance to dewormers. We must all work together to monitor and efficiently treat our animals to keep them healthy and happy. The cost of this class is $20 per person. CANNING TOMATOES AND SALSA: Canning Tomatoes and Salsa, By Diane Whitten, Nutrition & Food Resource Educator, Cornell Cooperative Extension Saratoga County. When you’ve got more tomatoes than you can eat, it’s time to preserve them. Canning will save freezer space and is relatively simple. You can simply put skinned, raw tomatoes in a jar, add hot water and process. Or you can get more creative and make a sauce, ketchup, hot sauce or salsa. When making salsa to can a recipe developed for canning must be used. You should not make your own salsa and can it because you won’t know the acidity of the final product or the appropriate canning method or proper processing time. Diane Whitten will be doing a presentation on Zoom about Canning Tomatoes and Salsa on Friday, September 11, at 11 am. Preregistration for this free class is required which can be done at http://ccesaratoga.org/nutritionfood/food-preservation. This presentation will include canning whole and diced tomatoes, plus canning salsa. The basics of canning in a boiling water or steam canner will be included.

KOMBUCHA BREWING CLASS: Friday, September 11, 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Rain Date: September 14, 5:00- 7:00 pm. This class is offered in-person and/or via zoom. In-person class will be held outside at the Sustainable Living Center and Greenhouse in Schenectady. Each person will have their own table and will be spread out for social distancing. Please wear a mask. If you would like to take the class from home, we will make arrangements for you to pick up your kit prior to the start of the class and you will receive a link to the class live. Are you interested in learning how to make your own kombucha at home? If so, join us for a kombucha brewing class. During this class, you will participate in making kombucha from start to finish and learn about options for flavoring and brewing. Participants will receive the SCOBY “symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast,” that is used in the fermentation and production of kombucha, pellicle mat(mother), a half-gallon jar, a flip top glass jar, and a step-by-step guide. In addition, you will receive your choice of fine, organic loose-leaf tea: green, black, 50⁄50 green and black, rooibos, or hibiscus. Tea donated by Divinitea. Kombucha is a fermented tea that has naturally occurring alcohol. Do not consume if you are avoiding alcohol due to pregnancy, allergies, sensitivities or religious beliefs. Please note, if you would like to purchase additional Organic Divinitea the day of the class for future kombucha brewing or enjoying, we request you send us an email a minimum of two days before class, so we can have it ready. NATUREFEST: Moreau Lake State Park NatureFest 2020 is going virtual on Sept.12. To help fight the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve cancelled our annual onsite event. With the help of many Friends we have created a dedicated website that will feature individual

videos, links and content highlighting local experts and organizations in many areas covering the environment, wildlife rehabilitation, conservation and sustainable practices. MELVILLE HOUSE TOURS: Lansingburgh Historical Society, located in Melville House at 2 114th Street, Troy, will open for tours on Saturday, Sept. 12. Reservations are required and limited. Two time slots are available: 10:00 am to 11:45am and 12:15 pm to 2:00. Face masks and social distancing are required. A $5 member or a $6 yetto-be member donation is appreciated. LIGHTHOUSE TOUR: Join the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society (HALPS) as it hosts visits to the eight room lighthouse, a quiet sentinel that has guided navigation on the Hudson River for 146 years. Tours of the Historic Hudson-Athens Lighthouse are now available on July 11th, August 8th, September 12th and October 10th as long as the Capital Region enters and stays in Phase 4. Masks will be required to enter, and visitors are required to take proper social distancing precautions while on the boat and inside the lighthouse. Visitors will be required to take a covid symptom survey as well. Staff will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces throughout the day. Tours leave from Henry Hudson Riverfront Park at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00 and 2:00. Tours leave from Athens Riverfront Park at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30. The tour, including the boat ride, lasts a little over an hour. Except for the last tour of the day, visitors may stay as long as they like as long as we are able to maintain safe social distancing. Adult tickets are $25 and Children under 12 are $15 (cash only unless ordered online). This includes transportation. Picnic tables are available for those who wish to bring lunch. As visitors arrive at the lighthouse, they climb the metal stairs and enter the interior of the lighthouse where they are welcomed by tour guides or docents. Through video clips, Emily Brunner, will relate factual stories about life on the lighthouse in the 1930s. Emily was the daughter of Emil Brunner, the last civilian lighthouse keeper, who served as keeper from 1930 to 1949. The Brunner family lived at the lighthouse during much of the 1930s before moving to Athens. Son Robert, was born on the lighthouse. Until 2015, Emily was often at tours and able to regale visitors with many colorful tales of life on the lighthouse. Sadly, Emily and her brother Bob have recently passed away. The tour gives you the opportunity to learn about the important role the Hudson River played in the development of the Upper Hudson River towns, and how the lighthouse made navigation safe along the river to allow development to take place. ONLINE INFO SESSION: An information session for the Adult Machine Tool Technology training program will be held by Virtual Meeting on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 6:00pm via WebEx. Interested adults will learn about careers in machining, what the training involves, the outlook for employment and potential earnings in the region, funding sources for the program tuition, and the admission process. Local employers will be on hand to talk about what the work is like and what it takes to be successful. Representatives from the Saratoga-Warren-Washington Workforce Development Board will explain the application process and how to qualify for free tuition. CEMETERY ASSOCIATION MEETING: The annual meeting of the Ballston Spa Cemetery Association for 2020, which was postponed from May due to coronavirus restrictions, has been rescheduled for Saturday September 19 at 10:30 AM in the Ballston Spa Village Cemetery. The meeting will take place immediately following a public ribbon cutting event which will launch the availability of the recently installed columbarium unit in the Village Cemetery. The public is invited and encouraged to attend both events. Attendance is limited to a maximum of 50 persons on a first-come first admitted basis. Members of the Association (grave owners) are permitted to vote on items of consideration at the annual meeting. Please enter through the Garrett Road entrance and follow parking instructions.

BIKE TOUR: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is pleased to offer its popular bike tour of the historic Saratoga Spa State Park on three occasions this summer. Join Linda Harvey-Opiteck on Saturday, July 11th, Saturday, August 22nd, or Sunday, September 27th for a tour of the park to explore its historic development from 1910 to the present, highlighting its significant architecture and landscape while remaining socially distant. Bike through the beautiful outdoors along the old roads, carriage paths, and trolley lines to explore the progressive story of Saratoga Spa State Park. This includes the protection of the springs, the creation of the reservation, and its development as a world-class spa, which today is a major cultural and recreational destination. The tour starts at the early bathhouses on South Broadway, known as Lincoln Park, then travels over to the little known springs on Route 50, and down to the scenic Geyser Park area. Along the way some of the changes made in the 1960s will be discussed. The tour concludes at the complex of Beaux Arts buildings in the heart of the park. Tickets are $20 for SSPF Members and $25 for non-members. Tour will last approximately three hours and people must bring their own bike. For those who do not have a bike, you can rent a bike through CDPHP Cycle! which has multiple locations throughout Saratoga Springs. Space is limited to 20 and tickets must be purchased in advance. The tour meets outside of the National Museum of Dance, 99 South Broadway. HOLLOWED HARVEST: ‘The Hollowed Harvest’ will feature 7,000 incredible Jack-O’-Lanterns creating stunning landscapes and larger-than-life displays, some towering as tall as 3 stories, and spanning more than 60 feet in length! The Hollowed Harvest is scheduled to open September 25th at 6 p.m. at the Altamont Fairgrounds and will continue Thursday through Sunday of each week through the beginning of November with additional dates added the week of Halloween. From dinosaurs to zombies, sea creatures to medieval castles, all made out of Jack-O’-Lanterns, you won’t believe what you’re going to see at the Hollowed Harvest!
