Make-A-Wish needs holiday campaign volunteers

- Staff report If you’re interested, email hero@neny.wish.org.

CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. » MakeA-Wish Northeast New York is in need of volunteers for this year’s Adopt-A-Wish holiday campaign.

Though so much of the world is still on pause, the illnesses that wish kids face have not stopped either. Volunteers can help to make local wishes come true for kids battling critical illnesses by being a part of this vital fundraiser.

There are several ways to participate safely in their two areas most in need:

• Volunteer to sell stars at the mall booths. They’ve made adjustments to their protocols to keep volunteers safe.

• All volunteers over the age of 18 will need to complete a Conflict of Interest formand a background check before you can sign up for a volunteer slot (if you have already completed one as a wish granting volunteer, you do not need to do so again).

• A maximum of two volunteers will be allowed per shift – this is a regulation set by the malls. To safely accommodate this, there will only be one signup slot, then youcan include the names of the two volunteers in the notes. You’re asked to make sure that your volunteer partner is part of your family, or your quarantine pod. If over 18, your volunteer partner will also need to complete the COI and background check.

• All volunteers will be required to wear a mask during their shift, gloves when handling any money, and commit to cleaning the booth at the end of your shift. (Masks and gloves will be provided if you do not have them).

Those interested in participating are asked to contact Director of Development Kirsten Broschinsky at kbro@neny.wish. org if interested.

The organization is also seeking volunteers for their Adopt-A-Wish Heroes Challenge from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31. The challenge is a great opportunity to pay it forward by reaching out to your personal network to help make more wishes come true. Each Wish Hero commits to raising $1,600 - $40 from40 contacts in honor of the 40th anniversary of Make-A-Wish.

You will be given your own fundraising page to personalize and use to send emails and share on social media.
