Redesigned Highlander a big move for Toyota

- ByMarc Grasso

The Highlander … need we say more?

Ever since Toyota developed the seven-passenger cruiser, it might not have been atop of your want list when searching for an SUV. But in the redesigned 2020 version, itworks for consumers looking for a little bit of everything.

It’s really a simple concept: manufacture a vehicle capable of lasting forever, providing above-average appearance and sight lines, and include a simple, effective powertrain option at a reasonable price. In the 2020 Highlander, Toyota does all of that andmore.

The powertrain, a 3.5L V6 engine with an eightspeed automatic transmission, is utilized in numerous other vehicles in both

Toyota and Lexus’ f leet. The exterior shows out with a more upscale look while adding a sleek front fascia. Our Limited AWD Highlander came with a gorgeous Blueprint paint color, a dark blue with metallic flakes added, a nice choice for the people-mover.

The redesigned interior finally discontinues the dated buttons and small infotainment screen and expands to modern technology with an optioned 12.3 inch touch screen infotainment system for only $1,050. It is perfectly positioned. Surrounding buttons also accompany the infotainment system, slimand not obtrusive. The seats are exceptionally comfortable for the sevenpassenger people-mover including the last row, showing significant head and leg room for all passengers.

Competing in this category is Nissan’s Pathfinder and Honda’s Pilot; both great options with similar pricing, yet the Honda seems to have less technology, while the dated Pathfinder is not as appealing to the eye.

In this category, manufacturer options are endless, so it all comes down to picking a manufacturer that is trusted and can deliver options that suit your needs. We anticipate Toyota will continue to deliver excellence in this category, as long as it keeps the appearances similar to that of the Highlander. In our garage for the mid-price, seven-passenger SUV, upscale-appearingHighland er, it’s a keeper.
