State Senate seats to be contested
Most residents of Saratoga and Rensselaer counties will learn who will be representing them for the next two years in the state Senate late in the evening on Nov. 3.
For those voterswho have yet to cast their ballots, the following is a roundup of the three state Senate races that coversmuch of the two counties.
The 49th Senate District includes parts of Saratoga, Schenectady and Herkimer counties and all of Fulton and Hamilton counties.
In the race to represent the district, incumbent Sen. James Tedisco, R- Glenville, is being challenged by educator ThearseMcCalmon, a Democrat. Tedisco has the Republican, Conservative and Independence Party lines on the ballot while McCalmon has the Democratic and Working Families party lines.
Tedisco is running for his third termin the Senate. He is well known in the area as a longtime Assemblyman who represented Schenectady, Schenectady County, Glenville and parts of Saratoga County for many years. He is a former educator, guidance counselor, and athletic coach with undergraduate and graduate degrees from Union College and the College of St. Rose respectively.
A resident of Schenectady, McCalmon holds associate degrees in human services and teacher education, an undergraduate degree in history, and a graduate degree in teaching. She has been an educator for more than 10 years, a Congressional campaign manager, and a Senate campaign consultant. In 2019 she nearly upset Schenect
