FREE CARWASH FOR VETERANS: For the 15th consecutive year, Hoffman Car Wash and Hoffman Jiffy Lube will show appreciation to the men and women who serve the United States of America. On Wednesday, November 11th, all active and retired military personnel will receive a free car wash at any of the 17Exterior or Full Service Hoffman Car Wash locations. Additionally, all military members can receive a $9.99Hoffman Jiffy Lube Signature Service Oil Change. Military personnel are not required to present ID; the event will be run on the honor system. Since 2006, Hoffman Car Wash has washed 55,000vehicles belonging to U.S. veterans and activeduty personnel during the Veterans Day event. VETERANS BALL: An Evening with and for our Veterans, hosted by the Veterans & Community Housing Coalition in place of their annual Veterans Ball fundraiser. The program will be streamed live from Caffe Lena at 7p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, and will include performances by regional musicians, stories fromthe community, a tour of the Military Museum, and more! This event has helped us raise the necessary funds to provide extensive service to our homeless veterans. Caffe Lena has graciously offered to host a live event for VCHC to honor our Veterans and raise the needed funds for our programs. We hope to build on our past success with this year’s special event so that we may continue to serve the homeless veterans in our community. Like so many not for profit organizations, the pandemic has had a devastating effect on our organization and the brave women and men we serve. Please join us on Veterans Day as we honor our Veterans from every conflict and every branch of our Country’s Military. Enjoy entertainment from many veteran and civilian bands and a visit to the New York State Military Museum. SENIOR FRAUDS, SCAMS & CYBERSECURITY: Shenendehowa Neighbors Connecting in conjunction with the Albany Guardian Society, invites you to attend a program on Senior Frauds, Scams, and Cybersecurity presented via Zoom on Thursday, November 12th from 1:30to 3:00pm. John Van Voris, Senior Consumer Frauds Representative, NYS Attorney General’s Office and Eleonora Morell, Training and Development Specialist, MicroKnowledge, Inc. will discuss how to avoid scams frauds and identify thefts that target senior citizens. Internet safety and security will also be covered. Shenendehowa Neighbors Connecting (SNC) is a newly formed Village serving residents of the Shenendehowa School District. Villages are membership-based, nonprofit organizations that help older adults age in their own homes by connecting them to neighbors, educational/social programs and community services.
EXPERTS NEXT DOOR: As part of its ongoing monthly speaker series “Experts Next Door,” the Saratoga County History Center is proud to announce that Dr. Tyler Anbinder, acclaimed historian and award-winning author, will be featured in November 2020. “Not Like My Grandparents? Today’s Immigration in Historic Perspective” will be available to registered participants on Thursday,
Nov. 12, at 7PM via Zoom.
The event is free to members of SCHC, and $5for nonmembers. When participants register on www.brooksidemuseum.org, they will receive a Zoom link.Dr. Anbinderwill discuss his groundbreaking work on New York immigration, as well as help viewers understand and interpret immigration in our own time. Audience participation is encouraged. Anyone interested in heritage, culture, New York history, immigration policy, or the recent past will doubtless find his presentation thrilling, provocative, and informative. Dr. Anbinder is an engaging speaker who looks forward to an exciting and productive discussion with upstate residents. This event is cohosted by Northshire Bookstore Saratoga, which will have copies of Dr. Anbinder’s books available for sale online and in person. The goal of the “Expert Next Door” series (launched in the spring of 2020) is to connect Saratoga County communities with top experts on a variety of topics.
