BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. » The Ballston Spa Central School District’s partnership program has once again received generous funding from the Ballston Spa Elks Lodge #2619 and TCT Federal Credit Union.

Representatives from the organizations recently presented donations and received recognition from the district during a Board of Education meeting.

“The generosity of the Ballston Spa community continues to amaze and humble me,” Ballston Spa Central School District Superintendent Ken Slentz said in a press release. Further, “On behalf of the Board of Education and BSCSD, we extend our sincere appreciation to both organizations for their support of our students and district programs.” TCT Federal Credit Union has been a long-standing corporate sponsor of the district and for the 2020-21 school year is supporting the Ballston Spa Partnership for Innovation in Education Fund at the $2,500 level. Those funds will be used to support the Scotties BackPack and Sponsor-a-Scholar programs as well as assist with the district’s Community Literacy initiatives.

In addition, the credit union will provide another $2,500 to assist with the purchase of science kits for students.

The Ballston Spa Elks Lodge continues to be a consistent supporter of the Scotties BackPack Program. For the 2020-21 school year the group has provided $3,500 to assist with supplying weekend meals to students who may otherwise go without.

In collaboration with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, the district launched the Scotties BackPack Program in 2017 at Milton Terrace Elementary School and has now expanded to all four elementary schools. The program provides a bag of easy-to-prepare food to selected students each week to eat throughout the weekend. The program started with providing weekend meals to 30 students and now provides food formore than 180 students in the district.

The cost to provide weekend meals for one student for the school year is $183. Revenue to support the program is raised by individual and corporate donations as well as through any available grant sources.

Other major contributors to the program have been The Rotary Club of Ballston Spa, Malta’s Sunshine Rotary Club, Route 50 Diner, Scotty’s Travel Plaza, the GlobalFoundries /Town of Malta Foundation and Saratoga Hospital.
