Albany County reports 90 new cases; one new death

ALBANY, N.Y. » Officials in Albany County reported 90 new COVID-19 cases as well as one new death Sunday morning.

Therewas one additional COVID-related death to report overnight, a man in his 90s and a resident of a congregate setting, though not Shaker Place. The death toll for the county now stands at 158 since the outbreak began.

Officials note that the overall case count will fluctuate as CommCare records are transferre­d in and out of county.

Additional­ly, the number of people under mandatory quarantine decreased to 2,256 from2,311. The five- day average for new daily positives decreased to 101.2 from 103.4.

There are now 900 active cases in the county, down from 915 yesterday. So far, 23,003 people have completed quarantine. Of those who completed quarantine, 4,742 of them had tested positive and recovered.

Among the new positive cases, 18 had close contact with positive cases, 71 did not have a clear source of infection at this time and one is a healthcare worker or resident of a congregate setting – though not from Shaker Place Rehabilita­tion and Nursing Center.

There were 11 new hospitaliz­ations to report overnight, and there are now 67 county residents currently hospitaliz­ed from the virus, a net increase of six. The hospitaliz­ation rate is now 1.18%. There are now eight patients currently in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit), up from six yesterday.

“I’m saddened to have to report yet another resident losing their battle with the coronaviru­s, and my deepest condolence­s go out to the

family and loved ones. We continue to see the ripple effects of the most recent spike of infections here in Albany County, after reporting six deaths yesterday and an alarming spike in hospitaliz­ations continuing today,” Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said in a news release on Sunday.

Testing is for those experienci­ng symptoms, essential workers and those returning to work by appointmen­t only, after being screened over the phone. To be screened, please call (518) 465- 4771.
