1.How did you become the new CEO of SRYMCA and what does that job entail?
“I have had the opportunity to serve as InterimCEOsince June, 2020. At the SRYMCA December Board of Directors meeting, the Board decided to officially appoint me the new SRYMCA Chief Executive Officer. The job entails being an active advocate for the Y’s mission, goals, and values, as well as serving as a spokesperson to our community. Another important part of the role of CEOis to create strategic and successful relationships with volunteers, leaders, donors, members, staff, and organizations in our communities to serve the children, adults, seniors, and families in the Saratoga Region.”
2. Now that you are in this new role, what is your goal for the future of the SRYMCA?
“Our goal for the SRYMCA in 2021 is to continue to work with the volunteers and staff to help get the Y back onto strong financial footing, grow membership, and provide important programs that make an impact on our community.”
3. What do you enjoy most about working at the SRYMCA?
“What I enjoy most about working at the SRYMCA is the people. We have great volunteers, staff, and members. Everyday there are probably five generations of people in our facilities and care, and we get the opportunity to serve themwhile making a lasting impact on our community.”
4. COVID-19 has caused some changes at the SRYMCA. What types of programs is the organization offering at this time?
“SRYMCA pivoted and found new and different ways to continue to service our community, members, children, and families. One of those ways in through our virtual programming. Virtual programming has allowed us to help ourmembers keep active, stay energized and mindful throughout the day. Additionally, we have continued to offer child care to families inour community at our Malta Early
Learning Center, Before & After School Programs, Remote Learning Academy’s, ½ Day Preschool Programs, and our Summer Day Camp. If the Y wasn’t offering this essential care it would make it even more difficult for parents to go back to work.”
5. The ongoing pandemic has been challenging for nonprofits. How can community members help the SRYMCA fulfill its mission?
“As a nonprofit our goal is never to turn away any person based on their inability to pay for services. The pandemic has caused incredible hardship on families, children, and seniors in our community. Support via donations to our annual campaign will help in making sure our programs and services can continue to be available for all. It will also help ensure the sustainability of our Y so that we can continue to serve for another 150 years.”
